So I woke up this morning with an email from a blog subscription from Ubiquitousdark and of course it’s about J.R. Smith getting fined…AGAIN.
No, this time it wasn’t for missing practice to go play with his panda.
It was for posting a pic of “The BIGGEST ASS EVER” on his Twitter.
Why does the NBA care?
So there’s a moral clause in every NBA contract. Sounds standard enough right?
The team has the right to terminate a contract if the player “at any time fails, refuses or neglects to conform his personal conduct to standards of good citizenship, good moral character (defined here to mean not engaging in acts of moral turpitude, whether or not such acts would constitute a crime), and good sportsmanship, to keep himself in first-class physical condition, or to obey the team’s training rules.”
WTF is Moral Turpitude you ask?
It doesn’t really have an EXACT definition but it’s more or less engaging in acts of vileness, depravity and something other than what he/she owes to his fellow man and neighbor. Because of the changing times on what is accepted or not the basis for moral turpitude has been to change as well. So basically it’s engaging in something different from the norm.
Does this constitute as that? It’s on the internet. He’s his own man. It’s not an NBA affiliated site.
I mean the contract says they could terminate him but a huge slap in the face fine? Really?
You’d think the NBA would cut him some slack after what happened in China. At this rate he’s going to be like the Delonte West of the Knicks. Why do we even pay J.R. Smith a salary?
And I KNOW there are other NBA players engaged in a whole lot of moral turpitude but you don’t see them getting fined over it. Weird.
If you want to see the original pic it’s out there on the internet. I just thought this picture was funnier.
Oh~ J.R. Smith…what are we going to do with you?
