Christmas Presents & Happy New Year Time!

Happy New Years everyone!

I hope everyone had a good New Year’s Eve last night! And best of wishes to all my followers and friends for the New Year!

Thank you guys for supporting my writing ventures throughout 2012! You guys are the best!

And I know this is a little late but I HAD to share with you guys all the amazing gifts I got for Christmas this year!

First from my hubby Mark!

320605_4992562088652_2108321629_nI got Adventure Time figures

21820_4992557008525_1029334397_nThey’re all from that one Adventure Time episode where the Ice King is reading his own made up story.

532415_4992555008475_785525321_nI ended up placing them on top of the Adventure Time art pieces that Mark had got for me earlier. Isn’t it cute? They fit perfectly!

(And yes, I later ended up switching the placement of the figures because Mark pointed out that it would clearly fit better if in reverse).

424856_4992564888722_218473273_nHe also got me this ADORABLE Lumpy Space Princess shirt!!!!

Oh My Glob! I love this episode!!

And here’s a closeup of the shirt:

Mark knows me so well! ❤

He also got me this absolutely fantastic Tokidoki shirt as well!

He really does spoil me silly…

And there was this art piece at a local boutique that I was totally smitten with and knowing how much I love art he bought it for me for Christmas!

If you see it in person it is absolutely stunning! This person did an amazing job! And it wasn’t that expensive either considering how pricey art usually gets!

And it’s all original too!

The only problem is that I’m not all too sure where I want to hang it… the wind in Hawaii is a huge problem and I’ve had glass frames shatter in a heartbeat so I’m just a little worried. BUT I have been seeing those Command 3M frame stick strips and I think I might just give those a try and see if they really do work as well as they advertise that they do. I’ll have an update about it when I do go ahead and give it the ol’ college try.

And that wasn’t even the last of it!

I’ve been saying for the longest time how much I want to play Ecco since I had such fond memories of it when I was younger that he actually found a copy for me! And luckily enough he still had his dreamcast system back at his parents house so I was psyched when I opened it on Christmas!!!

Sad news is that the controls suck and I can not play for shit! But I will give it another go around once I finish playing Yakuza 4. But I’m still really excited to have it there for me when I do come around to playing it again!!!!

And last but not least…we got to go to a Timberwolves home game the day after Christmas!!

581483_10200207200439529_2139316516_nWe each had a drink and had a blast!

It’s too bad the T-wolves lost to the Rockets though. They were leading the whole game but boy James Harden got lucky with most of his shots. That’s for sure.

Mark was pretty disappointed that they lost but I still had fun.

We were at the game with the 3rd highest amount of people in attendance. It was a little above 20,000 people.

Did you know that a Timberwolves game can seat more people than a Lakers game?

And that a Clippers game in the same Staples center can seat about 63 more people than a Lakers game?

Weird huh. It must be some of the courtside seats or something. Who knows.

I also received a very sweet Christmas card from my friend Missy:

And my longtime friend Bow sent me all these cuddly creatures and scrumptious treats all the way from Australia! Thanks Bow!

Those chocolates are delicious and I put up the finger puppets as art on my wall. I’ll upload a picture when I complete my art wall when I get home.

312857_10200091415184970_104256080_n

And one of my best friends Patty is such a doll that she sent two sets of Christmas presents! One with the cutest pair of Hello Kitty Leopard Jeans, ornaments and hair ties.

16196_10200131045695708_418205540_n

And another package with just a whole bunch of fun surprises!

She sent 3 sugar cookies (2 Christmas themed & 1 Spongebob cookie) and the family dog ended up getting into the Christmas cookies last night. I wasn’t angry but more worried about if the dog was going to be okay. She ended up puking it back up today but she seems in better spirits now which is good.

She knows I like foxes so she sent the cutest sweater and the cutest desk figure. Again, I’m just so worried that the wind is going to knock it over and smash it into a million pieces. Maybe I can just command strip everything into place!

…Not a bad idea at all. Hmmm…

Thank you Patty! Happy New Year!!

And these are the gifts I got from his family!

(They also got us our hotel room in Minneapolis for the Timberwolves game).

s1349901-main-heroI asked them for this specific Smashbox Foundation and they actually got it for me!

I’ve wanted it ever since I saw it at Sephora but it was too expensive for me to buy so I was so thrilled to get it on Christmas!

Oh and I guess before I go any further they asked both of us what we wanted for Christmas and we both each gave them a list of stuff that we wanted.

They got me so much stuff from my list it was crazy!

2012-12-30_19-18-15_531

They got me the Dostoyevsky book that I wanted! (Which is really good so far. I’ve been sidetracked by other things but I will get back to it…probably on the plane ride back home).

They also got me the Adventure Time game for DS which I beat yesterday. It has it’s pros and cons but I had fun with it. I’ll probably do a game review in a future blog update if anyone is interested.

Also a $100 gift card to Victoria Secret! I think I’m going to wait till I get home to use it though so we don’t have to carry home too much stuff.

They also got me a Hello Kitty Calendar and a Hello Kitty bank!

2012-12-30_19-16-18_592

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!

I am going to take a permanent marker and write ‘LAW SCHOOL’ on Hello Kitty Bank’s forehead and hopefully that will encourage me to save SOME money for Law School. A girl can try right?

2012-12-30_19-17-32_675

Mark’s sister got me a rolling pin! (Which I also asked for).

And her daughter (my niece…in law?) painted this pie pan for me since Becky (Mark’s sister) owns a glass shop where she does lots of crafts and stuff. I wanted a pie pan so this was perfect! Happy!!

And last but not least his parents also got me art supplies! I left my paints and stuff at home in Los Angeles and I wanted to start again so I was ecstatic! I have started painting again too. I haven’t finished but I will once I get home.

Yay!

I had an amazing Christmas! I’ll upload more Christmas cards and stuff once I get home to my mailbox.

Ah~ It’s almost time for school again…

I hope everyone enjoyed their New Years eve as much as I did!

61012_10200240145263129_1775918711_n

We hit the town, shopped, used our gift cards, ate delicious Mongolian BBQ and then went to Dempseys to play a little black jack.

Kahlua + Half & Half and a few rounds of Black Jack make for an amazing New Year’s Eve!

Life has been busy…

I miss writing on my blog! I’ve been pretty busy with school, work and family for the past month or so now.

I have so much to write about. So many pictures to share!

I got my Ada Wong costume in the mail today~! I can’t wait to wear it for Halloween!

I really do look bad with wigs and with black hair so this will be a challenge. I might just have to be blonde haired Ada Wong. It might just have to happen that way. Sorry guys.

Broncos had their bye-week this week. Excited for their game against the Saints on Sunday.

I haven’t been watching the NBA preseason. Half because my hubby is gone and the other half because the Lakers have NOT won a single preseason game AND because we have whiny ass Dwight Howard on our team now. I wonder if this is a legitimate enough excuse for me to give them up and just claim the Heat as my team. Regardless I will be going to the Lakers vs Brooklyn Nets game when I come back home for Thanksgiving. I just want to see Deron Williams play mostly. Everyone dislikes that he complains so much but who cares?

Oh, I did get new Adventure Time art though! I just need to get a frame for it and find a secure place to hang it on my wall before the wind knocks it down and breaks the glass again. Let me show you the NBA art print I bought a while back too!

It’s adorable right? I have so much Adventure Time art it is CRAZY! I’ll have to do a post on that, and I will. I promise!

Wilt Chamberlain piece I got from Free Darko! I absolutely love it!

Okay, listen to this. I got a frame from Ikea and brought it back ALL THE WAY FROM MINNESOTA TO HAWAII only to have the glass from the frame shatter when the wind knocks it over after I lay it up against the wall. REALLY WORLD? REALLY? Now it’s all dusty and not in a frame. WHY DON’T YOU HAVE IKEA?! OR AARON BROTHERS HAWAII? WHY?!?!

I’m just going to have to go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and have them cut me glass so I can frame it again. Hopefully this time it doesn’t shatter on me. I love art! I keep seeing stuff I want to buy and I refrain myself as best as I can!

I saw this Marilyn Monroe piece today and I think I might just have to get it… I just love art so much. I will post a picture when and if I do. Yay!

I will write more you guys so don’t lose faith!

Who doesn’t love getting mail?

I really do have the best friends in the world!

I got 3 things in the mail today! One I ordered for someone else but anywho…

First I got the Mr.Toast Art piece that I ordered!

Right when he posted a picture of it I knew I had to have it! My Mr.Toast collection is growing! Slowly but surely…

He framed it and everything for me too! I just need to find the perfect place to put it!

And then my awesome friend from New Zealand who’s living in London sent me some amazing stuff too!

The Earl Grey is so fragrant that I could smell it even before I opened the box! And I finally have Kinder Surprises and Marmite!!! Yum…And I’ve never even seen those fruit candies so I’m excited!

Boy am I one happy Panda!

Oh and last week Patty sent me a whole bunch of stuff too!

It’s all just cats! (And Astro Boy). LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I swear no one knows me like Patty does.

I have to go shopping so I can send everyone a little something back! Snail mail is the bestest! For sure!!!!

I love you guys!!!

It’s DIY Scrapbook time!

To kill boredom as well as preserve memories I thought it might be time to start semi-scrapbooking. What do I mean by that? I’m not making individual pages in a huge album but dividing up all of the momentos that I have and getting files for them accordingly.

I got one for playbills, another for ticket stubs and yet another for the mini film polaroids that I’ve been taking.

I’ve left most of my playbills back in LA but I have the ones that Mark and I have been to together so it’s a start for now. It’s nice to be able to look back at all these programs (and all the fond memories that come with them).

And this ticket stub organizer that I got off of Amazon fits just about every ticket that I have. Everything from Lakers tickets to tickets we got when we went hiking (yeah we had to pay to go hiking…lame).

Or Clippers tickets… I mostly paid to go see the other teams DESTROY the Clippers. So don’t take it the wrong way.

And I’m working on the polaroid album so that’s going to be a while. For those of you who want to get everything together in an album shouldn’t be afraid of excessive costs or the lack of time. This simple easy way will not only organize all of your momentos for you but it also drives you to do more with your creativity.

I can’t wait for my next DIY project.

Goodwill Lakers Shirt DIY x 2

So awhile ago we went to Goodwill and I ended up getting 3 shirts. One Obey shirt to send to my sugar baby, one Lakers shirt and one Call of Duty Elite shirt. For those of you who know me KNOW that I wouldn’t pass up a chance to get anything Lakers or Call of Duty related. Seriously.

So what’s different about this DIY is that I took the purple Lakers shirt and I revamped it and after I had put it together I had realized that it wasn’t exactly what I wanted so I took it apart and made something completely different and I’m very happy with the results.

But before I go any further here is the picture of the shirt that I used:

It was a Men’s XL so it was a lot of material to work with which helped in the DIY experimentation.

I’ve always just cut and sewed using my common sense reasoning skills as well as my fashion school experience but this time I decided to give those Youtube tutorials a go to see what I could come up with.

I tried out the rope tie halter idea as well as cutting up the sides and tying them together. I’m pretty sure I’ve been tying together sides for a while now so that wasn’t from the videos…or was it?

Anyways here is the video I took the tips from:

But I ended up being pretty disappointed because it didn’t sit quite right on my body.

I don’t know. Maybe it will work for you.

So I let it hang in my closet for a while till I felt inspired again to take it out and see if I can do something different with it.

And I’m happy to be able to say that I finally finished what I started today!

I ended up getting rid of the straps all together and instead turning it into a tube top dress with a heart neckline. I also put some darts in the bust line so it would better shape to my body which helped a lot since this men’s shirt was never meant to be form fitting. For the gold lining on top I ended up carefully stripping it off of another Goodwill dress that I had bought even earlier and sewing it on top of this one since it seemed to go so well seeing as how it WAS a Lakers color.

For the back I ended up using the back side of the second Call of Duty shirt that I had also gotten at Goodwill. I thought the Black would go well with the Purple and Yellow. It helps the dress look less like a Circus act and more like a fashion forward fan. All my sewing is done by hand because I enjoy taking the time to really make something come to life.

Now…what to make next. That ALWAYS seems to be the question…

DIY of the day

After my job interview this morning I had some time to kill so I decided to take a nice long walk to the neighborhood Goodwill and guess what I found? I was going to buy this EXACT frame at Sears but instead of paying $10 for this at Sears I ended up finding the same frame at Goodwill for about $3. You have no idea how excited I was to get home so I could make my little photo collage!

The nice thing was that these frames are the perfect size for the mini polaroids that I’ve been taking with my Fujifilm Instant Camera that I bought in Hong Kong. I’ve been having fun putting up all my art pieces from home up and this photo collage was JUST the perfect piece for our living room! I can’t wait to  fill this place up with art and more DIY projects!

And last week my great friend Phoebe sent me this BEAUTIFUL Adventure Time piece! She knew about my little Adventure Time art collection and it was so sweet of her to find a piece and send it to me. And instead of framing it, because there are no decent frame stores in Hawaii, I have found another use for it!

I’m going to use it as a calendar top to our little schedule board! (Excuse my legs). I’m psyched that our apartment is coming together!…Now I just need to find a replacement glass piece for that Wilt Chamberlain print but I will leave that for another day. Yay for art and DIY!

Now it’s time for more Storage Wars & Toddlers and Tiaras!

OH AND I GOT THAT FULL TIME JOB I APPLIED FOR TODAY! HOORAH!

Unique Find: Hawaii

So about a week ago I went to a local Arts and Crafts Festival in Waikiki and it wasn’t QUITE what I thought it would be but I found something pretty interesting that I doubt anyone is going to find anywhere else.

I was pacing in front of the booth wondering if I should jump on a pair or not and I’m glad that I did when I had the chance because I KNOW I would have regretted it otherwise.

These are shorts made out of old rice sacks! And yes they have lining on the inside so I’m not just wearing a sack of rice. They had a bunch of different designs but I HAD to have the ones with the crane on it. It’s just so colorful and vibrant!

They are not only very well made but by including the drawstring tie and the pocket in the back these shorts are actually functional. And surprisingly comfort is not an issue with these shorts like most would think at first glance. And what makes this piece especially unique is that it has the actual brand of rice and the address of the place it was packed for and it is right in the neighborhood of where I am living now, pretty cool huh? They also kept the original stamp that was on the bag notifying buyers of the weight of the rice by turning that into the back pocket sleeve. Simply ingenious!

Does this remind anyone else of that one ‘I Love Lucy’ episode? It was the episode where they were all in France and Ricky played a joke on Lucy by having clothes made out of potato sacks for both Lucy and Ethel. Joke was that a french designer ended up copying the idea and making his own line using potato sacks but by that time Lucy had burned her “original” because she thought she had been made a fool.

They even made a doll out of it.

Not to mention other future designers have been inspired by such fashion trends, whether they made good use of their inspiration or not is up to you.

I’m not saying that I’m going to be a trendsetter or anything like that but I just had to share this neat find with everyone. I love how people are still finding new ways to utilize everyday objects and it’s just amazing!

And I’m pretty sure they were made by the old man who was selling it to me. He had some other pretty cool stuff too…maybe I’ll pick up another pair if I ever see him again.

Now I have something to look forward to…finding unique cultural items that are made on the Island. Sounds like a challenge and I am nothing but excited for my new quest!
