Products native to Hawaii

I’ve actually found some food that they only have here (or so I’m guessing) which I think is pretty neat, like ANY location specific thing really.

Oh and here’s a picture of a rainbow I saw the other day. I took the picture so I thought I might as well post it, right?

So we all know Hawaii’s famous for Shaved Ice so why not make a version to sell in stores for you to take home?

Already done.

And the surprising part of this? It’s actually really good. We finished all 6 of them almost as soon as we got home. Yum! I actually prefer shaved ice desserts to ice cream or yogurt so this totally made my day!

And guess what I found to send to Mark’s brother?

Pepperidge Farm Maui Cookies! Who knows if they have these back home or not but I sure as hell haven’t seen them before. Let’s hope he likes them! I just think it’s so cool to see it in the store though. I’m not really one for cookies so I didn’t buy one for myself. I’m sure they’re delicious though. Maybe I’ll try them another time.

Even at Jamba Juice they have Summer specials!

Strawberry Lemonade, Tropical Mango and Watermelon Splash! Made with Coconut Water! I thought about trying this too but my love for coconuts stop at the meat. To me coconut water tastes like rotten water (if such a thing is possible). I’ve tried so many times to like it or get used to it but no matter how many $4 flavored coconut water things I buy at Whole Foods it doesn’t seem to change a thing. It is what it is I guess.

I’ll post more stuff as it becomes apparent.

On a side note, I think I have strep throat. UGH. NO FUN!

My amazing Saturday

School started last week so it’s been a bit hectic but I’m getting used to my schedule little by little so I’m pretty happy about that.

I have class Mon/Wed/Fri and I work Tue/Thur/Sun so no work/school conflict which is amazing!~ Thank you Travis!

But guess what I did on my one day off? EVERYTHING!

It was time to get a new phone plan along with new phones so that’s just what we did first thing in the morning. I chose the Droid Razer Maxx or whatever it’s called. It’s a little different from my old Droid X so it’s going to take a little getting used to but I like my phone so far. My wallpaper is this cat rolling around on an office chair. IT IS ADORABLE!

What did we do after that? What else but go to the beach at Bellows Air Force Base!

Clear blue waters and not TOO many kids. Win-Win-Win! I made sure we were seated as far away from the little beasts. Do I want sand kicked in my face and constant screaming? Um. No.

And for those of you who know me know I don’t like the water, sand or anything like that so instead I got to do a little reading while I was there.

I decided to reread Candide since we’re using it as a model for our own satiric masterpieces. And I have to say, I did like it better the second time around. I still say that my favorite piece of satiric work is Don Quixote, hands down. Come on, Don Quixote threw up in Sancho Panza’s mouth! Ah~ classic.

And while we were there I picked up these cute post it memos that they had at the shop! I’m going to use them for the photo albums and scrapbooks I want to make. They’d make pretty adorable additions to my already cute photo album! Yes they are to die for! Be jealous!

But my day doesn’t end there! There was a Goodwill Glam Sale at the Blaisdell Arena and since it’s right down the street from where I live I thought it’d be fun to go check out what they have going on. I ended up paying $2 admission because I had my military ID. Yay! And boy did I pick up a handful of stuff.

Not pictured is a shirt I picked up for my father-in-law but upon bringing it home Mark said that it would NOT fit his dad. Fail. So I’m sending it to my sugar baby instead. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it. I hope it fits his style though…Hmmm…

But before I go into detail about what I bought, look at these beautiful cars they had on exhibit at the back of the hall. GORGEOUS!

I just stood there drooling for a little bit but then continued shopping.

I got the Hello Kitty purse and the Tokidoki pouch at a steal of a price! My cousins are going to love these when I send them home for Christmas! And the last purse is for me. It’s nothing special but it was colorful AND it had zebra print and that was all it took to get me to buy it. Sad but it’s true.

And I bought this vintage-y dress that I absolutely fell in love with! Mark just thought it was whatever but I love it and that’s all that matters. And it fits perfectly too!

I also got this summer dress because I CAN’T WEAR ANY OF MY LITTLE BLACK DRESSES HERE BECAUSE IT IS TOO HOT! UGH! But I thought the dress was cute and I’ll be happy because I’ll finally be able to wear something that I’ve bought.

Oh and to top off everything of the day Mark and I went to a Roller Derby match right here in Honolulu. I used to love going while I was in LA so it was nice to be able to go in Hawaii as well. They didn’t have a real track and some of the rules were different but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless.

Overall I had a pretty amazing Saturday. Yup! Hope everyone is having as much fun with their life as I am!

Diamond Head Crater Hike

I thought I was going to die hiking this trail.

Here’s the description that the Hawaii State Parks website gives about the hike:

Description:┬áThe unique profile of Diamond Head (Le’ahi) sits prominently near the eastern edge of Waikiki’s coastline. Hawaii’s most recognized landmark is known for its historic hiking trail, stunning coastal views, and military history. Diamond Head State Monument encompasses over 475 acres, including the interior and outer slopes of the crater.

This broad, saucer-shaped crater was formed about 300,000 years ago during a single, explosive eruption that sent ash and fine particles in the air. As these materials settled, they cemented together into a rock called tuff, creating the crater, and which is visible from the trail in the park. Most of the vegetation and birds were introduced in the late 1800s to early 1900s.

The trail to the summit of Le’ahi was built in 1908 as part of O’ahu’s coastal defense system. The 0.8 mile hike from trailhead to the summit is steep and strenuous, gaining 560 feet as it ascends from the crater floor. The walk is a glimpse into the geological and military history of Diamond Head. A concrete walkway built to reduce erosion shifts to a natural tuff surface about 0.2 mile up the trail with many switchbacks traversing the steep slope of the crater interior. The ascent continues up steep stairs and through a lighted 225-foot tunnel to enter the Fire Control Station completed in 1911. Built on the summit, the station directed artillery fire from batteries in Waikiki and Fort Ruger outside Diamond Head crater. At the summit, you’ll see bunkers and a huge navigational lighthouse built in 1917. The postcard view of the shoreline from Koko Head to Wai’anae is stunning, and during winter, may include passing humpback whales.

560 FEET! It felt like 8.0 miles not 0.8 miles.

There were fat people and little kids just going at it but boy was I struggling! It felt like I was doing lunges the whole way up AND down the mountain. I didn’t take any of my own pictures because my phone was dying but I’ll post some pictures so you can have a sense of my hike last Friday. Overall I had a fun time. It’s good to go out and exercise and these weekly hikes with Mark have been kind of invigorating.

And here’s what it looks like going up and down:

If anyone is looking for a real challenge, this is it!

This week I want to try something less steep and more dense with greenery.

Just a picture of my two favorite furry buddies

So school started yesterday and it’s okay so far. I have 6 classes this semester so I have to make sure I stay on top of my shit, if you know what I mean. I have 3 English classes, 1 Art History class, 1 Anthropology class and 1 Philosophy class which is more like a math class because we’re learning deductive logic. I was really worried about this class but I soon realized it was just like my LSAT prep courses so I’m not TOO worried anymore. Yay!

I’ve been trying to bake more to keep my mind off of stress and it’s been helping quite a bit. I’m sure writing more on my blog will relieve more of my stress so I have to make sure to keep on that as well.

And most of all, I need to make sure I stay motivated throughout the whole semester. If I have to come up with incentives and rewards to keep myself going then that is just what I am going to do!

OH! And I’m going to start crafting again too! Hoorah! I ordered some supplies in the mail so I should be started on some projects very shortly.

But anyways, pictures like the one above really help me get through the day. I’m really glad my mother has been sending them to me. I have the most awesome cat in the world and Lala is pretty cute as well. I’ll call my mother and she’ll put the phone down so I can talk to Lala for a bit too. (Not like she understands but she turns her neck every which way to look for me). I miss my babies! AH!

MIA

Hey you guys. Sorry I’ve been M.I.A. lately. A lot has been going on.

So here’s a list of things I missed blogging about:

-USA Men’s Basketball winning Gold at the Olympics

-What an awesome year this has been for Lebron James

Is that it? Maybe. I start school tomorrow which I’m not REALLY looking forward to. I have to park off-campus AND take a shuttle AND take all 6 of my classes in one day. But it could be worse.

But in other news, guess what I saw at Ben Franklin crafts the other day?

Just about made my day. I promise I will write more soon.

OMG AND DWIGHT HOWARD IS ON THE LAKERS. EPIC FAIL.

Did you see me on TV?

I actually look okay in the episode. Phew. Thank god. I’ll put up some screenshots when I get them. And for those of you who don’t know what I am talking about, (Yes I am guilty of selfless self promotion), I am on tonight’s episode of Bizarre Foods America on the Travel channel. Go check it out if you haven’t already!

But otherwise, today’s been a long day but a good one for the most part. My headache and semi-cold are a little better too which makes things a little easier.

And since I don’t have pictures of me in the episode I’ll upload these pictures of Tony Parker in the Olympics that Mark found.

Priceless right?

Well back to what’s been happening lately. My family left on Friday but we ended up having a lot of fun with them. We ended up going to the North Shore like EVERY SINGLE DAY but all in all we all had a great time. Lots of good food and relaxation time, just what the doctor ordered.

And then yesterday it was Mark and I’s 1 month marriage anniversary! We only realized it after our hike but that’s okay. We went to Manoa Falls and it was such a fun little outing together. I really enjoyed it and we’re going to go hiking again next weekend.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures! A lot of people were hiking in flip flops and barefoot… There was so much mud and rain and slippery rocks that I don’t know how those people survived. My cowboy boots, on the other hand, took me there and back just fine, especially with the help of my hubby Mark being there for me when my shoes didn’t have any traction.

Yay! Fun times. We also ended up going to Costco and Walmart that day and making care packages for family. I love making care packages and sending mail! Who WOULDN’T want a bunch of goodies in the mail??

Look what they had at Costco though… WANT! Only is the cat is included…OMG Maybe this is the perfect Christmas present for Rolf! Who wouldn’t want to see cute pictures of Rolf in this little cat bed. Which reminds me…my mother sent me more pictures of my little babies so I’ll upload them soon!

Speaking of what I saw at Costco, look what else I saw at Walmart!

Vintage-y looking Cracker Jack boxes! I wanted a box but it only came in a set of 3 so I just took a picture instead. *shrug* Good enough for me.

Oh, not to mention we got Saimin for the first time. Noodles were so so but we had Sweet Potato Tempura and they used Okinawan Purple potatoes and they were delicious! Just like the ones you get at the country fair that just MELT IN YOUR FUCKIN MOUTH! UH! It was ORGASMIC!

I also got some delicious strawberries from Costco! Growing up I’d always eat them with sugar so that’s what I’m doing now. Yum!

I love our Sundays off together!
