Lottery Draft Pick

And even though the Charlotte Bobcats had a 25% chance of getting the #1 NBA Lottery Draft Pick, the rug was pulled from out under their feet and the #1 Pick this year will go to the New Orleans Hornets.

Who else is disappointed?

I mean the Bobcats will still get a good pick regardless because they’re #2 but it’s highly unlikely that they’ll get Anthony Davis who is probably going to be drafted first by the New Orleans Hornets.

But did any of you guys see the Draft on TV? The Cavaliers owner sent his son (who looks 12 but sounds 32) as the Cavs representative. I thought it was pretty funny. WHY DON’T I GET TO BE ON THE NBA DRAFT LOTTERY STAGE AS A REPRESENTATIVE?!?!

He was actually on last year too and he was 14 last year so I guess that means he’s 15 this year.

Here’s his clip from last year:

Here’s the full list if any of you missed it:

1. New Orleans Hornets
2. Charlotte Bobcats
3. Washington Wizards
4. Cleveland Cavaliers
5. Sacramento Kings
6. Portland Trail Blazers (via New Jersey Nets)
7. Golden State Warriors
8. Toronto Raptors
9. Detroit Pistons
10. New Orleans Hornets (via Minnesota Timberwolves)
11. Portland Trail Blazers
12. Milwaukee Bucks
13. Phoenix Suns
14. Houston Rockets

And it’s just like everyone expected…it’s a lose lose scenario for the New Jersey Brooklyn Nets either way. No #1 draft pick and they can say goodbye to Deron Williams. Deron wasn’t going to wait for Anthony Davis to mesh into the Nets and I think he’s done waiting for DH to get to the Nets. Oh well, so much for that.

Let’s go Lebron & the Heat!

Rack City Bitch

I’m so glad being in Hawaii doesn’t stop me from spotting nice cars. Always nice to see a Bentley somewhere close by. Don’t really care for the soft top or the bumpy edges on the rear but it is what it is.

What have I been doing in Hawaii? Mostly just looking for a job and walking around. Haha.

We found the perfect apartment though! We’ll sign the lease sometime next week. I am SO EXCITED! I’ll post some pictures up when I can.

Oh and guess who picked up their baby from the shipping dock? THIS BITCH RIGHT HERE! I’m so happy to have my car back. I know I can walk to almost anything on this island but it’s just nice to know that my baby will be here with me. It just sucks that I’ll have to give up my California plates though…I think I might just register and get a custom license plate instead of a boring regular Hawaii license. It’s only about $25 more a year so it’s not too bad.

All the California Girl references are taking so maybe I can do something like this…

That one is still available…hmmmm

I guess I’ll have to think about it some more to see what I can come up with. If any of you guys have any suggestions I want to hear them!

Oh and look what other beauty I saw in a shop just yesterday!

Ain’t she a beauty? Someone took REAL good care of her.

And because it’s so close to the playoffs I thought I’d post my bracket. The last few spots might change as the regular season comes to an end but it shouldn’t make too big of a difference in the overall outcome.

And I’m sad we won’t be able to go this year but we’ll start the tradition again next year so I’m pretty excited about that! We’re going to make a trip of it every year and visit a new city and watch a different team go to the playoffs. It’ll be fun.

We’ll see how it goes. I’ll probably end up placing a few bets here and there but that’ll be nothing new. I’m surprised at how many teams have just been KILLING it lately! Just giving it their all as the season comes to a close.

I think Lebron will get his ring this year and another MVP trophy. Who else but the King right?

But if the Thunder or the Bulls won I wouldn’t be as disappointed either. We’ll see who can bring their A game when it comes down to it!

I saw this at an Italian restaurant and I had to take a picture. KING JAMES PIZZA BITCHES! Hahaha.

Pacers vs Bucks game on right now. I wish the Bucks could just win these last few games so they could make it to the playoffs! A girl can dream right? It’s going to be hard to win against the Pacers though, they’ve been on a roll!

All Star Picks that WEREN’T selected. What happened?

So the NBA 2012 All Star Reserve Picks have been announced. Who else is surprised by not who they picked but who they DIDN’T pick?

For those of you who missed the Reserve Picks, here they are:

WEST

1. LaMarcus Aldridge (Forward)

2. Marc Gasol (Center)

3. Kevin Love (Forward – Center)

4. Steve Nash (Guard)

5. Dirk Nowitzki (Forward)

6. Tony Parker (Guard)

7. Russell Westbrook (Guard)

EAST

1. Chris Bosh (Forward)

2. Luol Deng (Forward)

3. Roy Hibbert (Center)

4. Andre Iguodala (Forward – Guard)

5. Joe Johnson (Guard)

6. Paul Pierce (Forward)

7. Deron Williams (Guard)

Just like someone said on Twitter:

“Josh smith. Call 911.You got robbed. No mask no gloves- its fingerprints- all over the place call first 48-no call Atlanta CSI- Call the FBI”

I mean what a big surprise right? Me + Ernie, Kenny, Charles and Shaq were all shocked by this. We all had him on our lists! But it seems like the same debate each time, there’s a player that should have been picked but Charles said it best when he said, “We only award winners”. People get overshadowed all the time. The same thing that happened to Josh Smith also happened to people like Jrue Holiday, Darren Collison and Danny Granger. I wouldn’t say they were outshined but when it comes down to it they pick the “winning” players. It would be awesome if they could pick the scorer and the supporter but sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way. It’s like saying Derrick Rose would be nothing without Luol Deng but the same goes for these other supporting players as well. They’re who keep the team scoring and together. With the number of Defensive Rebounds Josh Smith puts out as well as being relatively high scoring, what more could you ask for? Josh is #6 in Blocks, Blocks per game and Defensive Rebounds in 48 minutes. And he’s ranked #2 in Blocks per 48 minutes only beaten out by Thunder’s Serge Ibaka (but he’s in Spain playing Real Madrid right now). He WORKED for this! Lost weight, got into shape and now he’s the best player on the Hawks. He’s what has been keeping this team afloat this season. With Al Horford gone he’s really stepped up to carry his team to where they are now. Let’s compare the stats between the Reserve Forwards that have been picked for the East. (And maybe why don’t we look at Chris Bosh’s stats too while we’re at it).

Chris Bosh

Luol Deng

Andre Iguodala

Paul Pierce

Josh Smith

You can see by just looking at the stats that Josh Smith should have been chosen. It should have been Deng, Iguodala AND Smith’s first All Star game. Yeah he was off to a rocky start but he shaped up this year! There was no reason why he shouldn’t have been chosen. A lot of other amazing players weren’t picked as well. I’ll write more entries! You guys haven’t been forgotten! It’s okay Josh Smith…we’ll get them! And their little dog too!

New VW Beetle: Yay or Nay?

So I’ve been having a lot of interesting conversations with different people about the new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle and have been getting a lot of mixed feelings and reviews so I thought what better place to hash it out than in a blog entry? I went over the specs of a 2012 Beetle and the new 2012 Beetle (both 2.5 Hatchback) and to be honest besides the design and a couple of new technological features there wasn’t much of a difference between the models. The MPG mileage was pretty much the same 20-29 as it was in 2010. The price is still in the high $19,000 to the mid $20,000. Same 2.5L inline 5 cylinder engine. Same 14.5 gallon fuel tank in both models. The one big difference that might interest prospective buyer is the increase in power and decrease in overall weight. The 2010 model has a power of 150hp@5,000rpm ; 170flt lb of torque@3,750rpm while the 2012 model has a power of 170hp@5,700rpm ; 177ft lb of torque@4,250rpm. The weight has always changed from 3,248lbs to a much lighter 2,939lbs. That’s a whopping 309lb weight loss. But I had a lot of questions as to what VW’s push was to revamp the classic Beetle. I put together a list of questions trying to answer what the deal was to better understand the significant change.

1. Will the new 2012 Beetle lose Volkswagen enthusiasts?

After talking to people who know quite a bit about cars to those who aren’t as knowledgeable about them there was a vast array of responses that I had acquired about the new design. For die hard VW fans, it was a disappointment. Being a purist as well when it comes to cars I understand where these people are coming from. The classic bug is what they grew up with and what they love and it’s hard to just see VW change it out of the blue. Even those interested in buying a bug are looking into purchasing an older model so they can have what they’ve always wanted, the classic bug.

But the same can not be said about those who haven’t followed VW throughout the years. They see the new model as a refreshing change to an old design that they had grown weary of years before. They are considering giving the bug, and more importantly VW, another chance at their consumerism. But what was that age old business saying? It is cheaper to keep customers than to get them. But I’m not sure if VW has done enough to get these people through the doors of a VW dealership just because the new designs have caught their eye. Which leads me to my next question.

2. Will the new design revive the Bug in the current market? Is it meant to go up against the Mini Cooper and the Fiat 500?

You can’t deny that the new Bug resembles these two other smaller automobiles. When compared to the Mini Cooper the price range is the same but the new Beetle does have a bigger engine but is that enough? Plus when it comes to gas mileage the mini cooper is more gas efficient than the Beetle. And compared to the Fiat 500 which is cheaper and more gas efficient the only thing the new Bug has on it is the horsepower (and a bigger gas tank). But is that what people really want when they step into a new 2012 Beetle? More horsepower?

Let’s compare the sales stats for all 3 cars.

Mini Cooper sold 3,610 in March 2010 but that number rose to an outrageous 6,087 by March 2011 which is a 68.6% in sales.

Fiat 500, having started selling Fiats again in the US starting March 2011, sales went from 1,759 to 3,141 which is a 78% increase.

With the Beetle sales have been pretty substantial not including the 2011 sales when there was not a new model. In 2010 in January they sold 2,167 new 2010 Beetles where in January 2012 they have only sold 1,401 new 2012 Beetles which is substantially less. So sales dropped 35% instead of increasing.

3. Then who IS the target market for the new bug? the environmentally conscious? those who want to make a fashion statement? men? young people?

Gas mileage isn’t HORRIBLE but it is substantially less than cars like the Fiat 500 and the Toyota Prius so that can’t be it. Would buying the new Beetle say something about someone? People usually buy luxury cars or hybrid cars to voice who they are through their cars so that probably isn’t it either. I could be wrong but I’m not really sure what that statement would be. Maybe just buying new for new’s sake? So I guess that leaves the men and the young people. I guess they want more young men to buy their cars? It’s no surprise that most of the sales that VW does make of the Beetle is to women. Over 65% of sales ARE made to women but I guess by changing up the design to look more contemporary and adding a little more power under the hood is supposed to attract more male cliental. But will it work? Will men be able to overlook the label that has been attached to Beetle’s all these years? I mean even Barbie has a VW Beetle. It can’t get any more feminine than that. Mini Cooper and Fiat 500 have done a great job not marketing to one sex or another which has kept their sales rising throughout the US and overseas. They want the age group to be about 36 but will that happen? The new Beetle is at neither the SUPER MANLY extreme or the ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS extreme. I guess for those who are okay with a mediocre car than this is the car for them? What stops them from buying the cars mentioned above or a nice Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry? Nothing.

4. Why couldn’t they have named it something else?

Car companies have made this mistake time after time. Making models that look nothing like previous models and ruining the name that has been attached to those cars. Sure, for those who have never seen an early 2000’s Chrysler 300 or a 1960’s Chevy Impala this means nothing to them. I’m not saying the early 300’s look better or anything like that, I’m just stating that with dramatic change, I think that requires a new name to accompany it. This way they can market the new car against the top sellers while also having the classic Beetle for those who want them. It’s not like sales were staggering to a stop when they decided to change the design.

5. More horsepower? Lighter weight? Possibly a new racing car?

It is geared towards men but could it be geared towards racers and those who own other VW automobiles? It’s no secret they use Minis and Fiats to race overseas but are they hoping that it will catch on? (Just not Herbie style? ) Would VW owners who own Jettas and GTI’s possibly consider getting a new Beetle when their model gets old? Most VW owners are pretty keen to their own models and types but could it be a possibility? But that would mean that over the years that VW would have to change the car even more to allow better handling and durability during races. Maybe an AMG, M, supercharged SRT8 Beetle? I don’t know, I’m just saying. Would people be at all interested in a faster Beetle? Most people I know don’t race their bugs but things may change in the next coming years.

6. Are people buying it for the updated technology?

I’m sure some people would contribute the new technological advances as to the reason for their purchase but cars are always coming out with updated versions of themselves. Even if the design hadn’t changed, the technology would have.

7. Have they possibly lost their selling point by changing the design?

Who didn’t grow up watching Herbie? (The original or the remake). Doesn’t it make you feel, even just for a second, that you could be in that car experiencing the same joys? All the product placement and advertisements selling the new Beetle. Everything from putting a flower vase in the front dashboard to having it in children’s movies like Coraline. We’ll just have to wait and see if people catch on with the new craze. I have seen two new bugs in the gym parking lot and I guess if I see the driver we’ll have some things to talk about but what makes this car different than others? What can this car do for me that others can not? Like I said, I know people who have grown up wanting a classic bug.

8. Do they need a younger customer base? Are their customers getting old? dying? unable to drive? Are they doing what Cadillac and Buick were unable to do?

I mean I guess 58 is an older mean age of the customers buying cars but they are buying them nonetheless. And they have been doing great throughout the years getting younger customers by marketing to them. Cadillac and Buick was too late on the bandwagon to change to meet the needs of the younger drivers but Volkswagen has not had that problem. They have always been on top of their target audience and market so was the change necessary? If they knew that sales from women would drop from over 65% to around 50% or less was it worth the risk? Throughout the years female drivers have been increasing in the US which means more female consumers in the car market.

9. Boost to not only raise sales in US but also Overseas?

As mentioned earlier Volkswagen is trying to raise their sales especially in the European territories. With movies and television promoting newer, smaller and more fuel efficient cars VW is trying to join in on the frenzy. With smaller streets and higher gas prices the Europeans are always looking for new and more effective ways from getting from point A to point B. Maybe the new Beetle offers a style that will be welcomed by our counterparts overseas? But gas mileage isn’t the best it could be and maybe MAYBE it is a little too big for easier maneuvering through the tricky roads? Who knows.

10. What are the incentives of buying a new 2012 VW Beetle?

I haven’t found anything that immediately catches my eye. There’s a higher resale value for the 2012 Beetle convertible? But that would mean that you are buying it to resell. More powertrain options? Rebates? Low APR? Maybe I’m not looking hard enough?

Well that was my overview on the new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle. Hopefully it got some people thinking and I’d love to hear what you guys think about it. Thanks!

Who would your NBA 2012 All Star Western Center pick be?

Yes I am a Laker fan for life but is it just me who thinks we could have chosen someone else besides Bynum? I mean I know Al Jefferson hasn’t been having the BEST season exactly. But I guess a lot of the good centers are all on the Eastern side. The Gasol brothers? LaMarcus Aldridge? Maybe? If anyone has any comments on that I’d like to hear.

While we’re on the topic of NBA All Star Starters, Mark thought they could have chosen a better small forward for the East but I actually think Carmelo deserved the spot, to be honest. IT IS NOT HIS FAULT THE KNICKS SUCK THIS YEAR AND THAT THE NUGGETS ARE BETTER. (*Mark you do not know what you are talking about*) Anyways, if it weren’t Carmelo I guess it’d have to be Paul Pierce or Danny Granger. Don’t you think? C’mon. Who doesn’t like Carmelo Anthony? Haha. I guess we’ll see what happens when they announce the reserve players for this year. Hopefully they’ll do it soon since the games are about 2 or so weeks ago.

And since I said I would do it, here it comes.

Critique of the 2012 NBA All Star Jerseys

Is it just me or does it look like those jerseys should be part of a Dentyne Ice Commercial? Where Lebron and Kobe are fighting bad breath and their jerseys are all dirty and worn out and with just one piece of Dentyne Ice both of them go flying through the air only to have monstrous Slam Dunks and right when the ball hits the rim their jerseys break out in crystallization like they’re both heating up and cooling down at the same time. Product Placement! That’s how I think they look anyways. Where do I start on the font? It’s like we’re all watching star tours at Disneyland and the letters just spread through centuries and galaxies, up down side to side. Not to mention the stars do the same thing. What is up with that by the way? Fact: Stars do not look cooler at an angle. And what is up with the design inside the numbers? Do we really need to see NBA home court tiling in the middle of the numbers? Someone just thought a wood plank design in natural wood and silver was just so magical apparently. AND WHY DO THEY ALWAYS DO THE THING WHERE THE PLAYERS NAMES AREN’T EVEN IN THE SAME FONT?! What is the point of that? Too lazy? I mean you knew which name was going with which number when you manufactured it. Are people not going to be able to read slanted futuristic font when it comes to the player name? Or is spending that extra 2 minutes putting ‘Durant’ into a computer generated font maker WAY too hard for some people. It must be that same intern that designed that Miami Jersey I was talking about yesterday.

Then what IS the best NBA All Star Jersey design? Well thanks for asking. I’d say 2009 was my favorite.

Granted it’s not PERFECT but it’s better than the stuff they’ll be wearing this year. It’s clean, simple and memorable. I’m divided on how I feel about the flame stars on the pants but overall it is what the NBA All Star Jersey should be like.  Not sure why they used a slight variation from the font for EAST and WEST but who knows. I bet there’s just one MUST that has to be on all All Star jerseys and it’s that futuristic font they use. Do the designers that people will stop buying them if they stop using a certain type of font? Or that it instills memories and a certain type of feeling within people? *shrug* One thing that I CAN agree on is that I’m glad we’re past this:

Do you remember these? 2005/2006 All Star Jerseys…I’m just glad we’ve come so far since then. Haha.

Have a different favorite year? I could go over the pros and cons of every year but I think that’d be too much. I don’t know if I want to dish out $60+ for a jersey that I don’t think is designed well. The price you pay to be a fan right? I guess that was my little rant for now.

Your mom’s a whore! 64!

It’s Super Bowl Sunday Bitches!

I am the resident Denver Broncos Babydoll Barista of Royal T! I single-handedly fight off the vicious predators who creep on the young unsuspecting girls of Royal T while making espresso masterpieces anyone would be wowed at! All in a day’s work for this crime fighting barista princess! Muhahaha!

I really do love making drinks though…there’s just something about it that I can’t get enough of.

But in all honesty, who cares if they’re (the Broncos) not playing today…I can just go back in time and relive the ’98 & ’99 victory! That’s right! Like I’d abandon my team just because they’re not playing this year. Pff whatever. Anyways it was a pretty cute Sunday. All the girls dressed up like cheerleaders today. Thank you H&M for making baseball tees that are cheerleader themed! Ugh H&M. Anyways it was adorable to see them all matched for the day.

So for those of you who don’t know we use the Pandora application on the cafe ipad to play the music for the whole cafe. Most days everyone has to deal with my obsession with 80s Pop Music and if they don’t like it then that’s too bad because I’m the King of the Bar and the ipad is under my reign of terror! They’ll listen to “Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go” The Extended Version as many times as I want them to. (I’m sorry Phoebe but that’s how things roll). But sometimes all two of the many employees at Royal T who seem to greatly despise 80s pop music are stuck working with me so sometimes I try to be nice and cut them some slack. No, that does not mean that I will listen to weird rap music or some country hippie shit. I said SOME slack not I’m giving up my country for my people shit. So I picked the next best option…the Michael Jackson channel! Phoebe likes Michael Jackson so I was like hey why not. And we all know Pandora, along with programs like Netflix, use algorithms to pick songs that a person would like depending on what they have already listened to and this is what Pandora came up with:

that if I like Michael Jackson that I would also like the “Overture” from The Phantom of the Opera. My question is how the fuck did it know? I LOVE Phantom of the Opera. Touché Pandora…touché.

On a different note though, everyone who knows me knows that I’m a huge car geek. So much so that I’m constantly seen talking to my own car talking about cars to anyone around. I usually have dinner once a week with my bestest car buddy Jack but we went to a Clippers game earlier this week so no dinner. Boo. AND he’s going to be gone for a while. Lame. I guess I’ll just have to go back to sitting at the local park by my house telling whatever pigeon will listen to me about the new LED light craze that has been going around. Ew no, why would I feed them? I’m not crazy or anything. I don’t care if Chinese people think it’s good luck or not. No thank you. But since I have you here reading my blog I might as well tell you my frustration of the day.

Really Dodge? Really? LED’s were so 2+ years ago and the only people who know how to do it right is Audi. And those circular LED lights only look decent on the new corvettes that have them. What are you trying to do? The old Dodge Avenger lights looked just fine. It makes the car look very unflattering and of low quality. What guy in their right mind would drive one of those? Even the Dodge lettering on the back is so unflattering. It adds nothing to a plain surface. What happened to the good old Dodge symbol? Can people not tell that it’s a Dodge unless it fuckin says “DODGE” on the back? Not to mention the lights on the trunk scream “CHEAP!”. We can’t all be Mercedes-Benz now can we when it comes to trunk/rear center brake lights. The new Avenger looks like the ugly unwanted child of a Ford Focus and a Honda Civic. The Avenger is the sister of the Charger that they should’ve kept locked up in the basement. Who would spend any kind of money on that? Why not buy an Avenger from a decent year with a decent design? Not to mention the grill is horrendous, among other things. I think the best year so far is the 2006 Dodge Avenger.

Look how classy the whole feel of the car is? You can just see yourself driving through deserted freeways at night enjoying the illuminated skyscraper scenery of Downtown LA. Well at least I can. That was a good year…But I don’t want to leave anyone on a sour note so here’s a beauty that I saw at the gym on my way to work out.

Oh yeah…and I worked out at the gym today. I love working out! I’ve been feeling a lot healthier lately. Yay!

But here you go…just like I promised.

Such a beauty…

Audi KNOWS what they’re doing when it comes to cars. This brand new Audi A7 was the most gorgeous shade of dark green I have ever seen on a car. Darker than the Jaguar racing green and a lot less shiny metallic than the colors you see on American cars. Everything is so well thought out and the attention to detail on this car is beyond anything anyone will see on other cars in the market right now. Audi is always ahead of their time when it comes to tail light design and I just get such a rush from tracking their style progression throughout the years. Not a thing is out of place. I could talk about this car for hours but I don’t know if anyone would really be that interested. I’ll just leave it at this, a lot of Californians are so caught up with buying a Porsche and Beamer for name’s sake that they forget what automobiles are all about. What happened to caring about look, performance and efficiency? (No I am not talking about that saving gas with higher MPG shit, I’m a purist). I’m just saying, Audi isn’t a name that should be ignored when it comes to considering what cars to buy next.

I guess that’s it for right now. Thanks for reading!
