Rookie Couponing…Try #2

2013-01-30_15-52-31_957

So I “tried” couponing again today.

Not REALLY HARDCORE or anything since I only took in one physical coupon that was for $0.30 but I still gave it my best try…

2013-01-30_14-41-15_676

First I got a $10 coupon (for spending so much money). #CouponFail

For anyone who lives near a Safeway, they are doing a promotion where if you spend $75 you get a $10 coupon for next time!

2013-01-30_14-41-25_943

And then I got a $2 coupon for any two Splenda products.

Hey, at least it’s more than 30 cents.

And for the record, no I do not use Splenda, Mark does.

2013-01-30_14-42-25_113Mark likes to take Cashews to work but they are SO EXPENSIVE in Hawaii but I got a steal on these!

Normally they are $20.39 but the store was having a sale where they were $2.40 off so $17.99, BUT I had a Safeway eCoupon (which you can also get by checking our their website. Safeway.com and registering for an account. All you need to do is add the eCoupon to your account and it automatically deducts the coupon once you scan your club card or type in your phone number while in the checkout line). SO I got an additional $3.00 off these bad boys making them only $14.99. (Which is still a ridiculous price for Cashews, if you ask me).

1. Register at Safeway.com.
2. Click on “just for U”.
3. Click on “Coupon Center”.
4. Go through the list and add what you want (you might as well add everything since it doesn’t hurt).
And they’ll be ready to use without any unnecessary hassle!

Easy right?

2013-01-30_14-42-56_685

Bought another Land O Lakes Unsalted Butter. I used the coupon that you see on there (that I got last time) to get 30 cents off my purchase. I usually buy Salted butter but I’ve been cooking a lot and it’s better most times to use unsalted so I’ve been getting in the habit of just buying unsalted butter, just in case I need it to bake cookies or what have you.

2013-01-30_14-43-21_103

These were on sale for buy one get one free!

Who DOESN’T like breakfast sausages??

So normally for two of these boxes it would be $11.98 but I only paid $5.99! Score! We’re eating good tonight! Hahahaha. I kid.

2013-01-30_14-44-06_246

And how much do you think I paid for this box of 200 Splenda packets? Originally it’s $12.99 but they were $4.00 off so I only paid $8.99 for them.

Although if you think about it, I could have just taken multiple trips to a nearby coffee shop and just lined my pocket with Splenda but who am I kidding? I’m not Chinese.

I’m just joking people. Other Asian people do it too…don’t worry.

2013-01-30_14-44-27_549

Mark also likes these Builders Protein Bars but they’re usually pretty pricey.

(Yes, they can be cheaper at Walmart but sometimes I just don’t want to deal with the hassle of what is Honolulu Walmart).

The peanut butter ones are originally $10.39 and the chocolate mint ones are $10.19. Why the peanut butter costs more than the mint, I have no idea.

But I got them both at $7.99 a box (which is pretty good since they usually sell for like $2/a piece).

2013-01-30_14-45-10_506

The Flipz White Fudge Pretzels were also buy one get one free!

Cha-ching!

Seriously, score of the day! (Well this and the breakfast sausages…what? They’re good!)

So normally they would both be $9.58 but I only paid $4.79 for both.

These things are addicting!

I have stopped buying things that I could make at home but I don’t think I could make these as fast as I could eat them.

Good thing I’ve been hitting the gym lately.

And I bought a few other things with minor savings but I didn’t think they were worth the post.

2013-01-30_14-45-20_119

I also got some Cream of Tartar so I could make some Snickerdoodle cookies this week. It was on sale but it wasn’t.

Let me explain.

All the spices were Buy 2 Get 1 Free but spices are so expensive and I didn’t think I needed another one…

Although thinking about it, I’m kicking myself right now because I could have bought some more Cinnamon (which I use more than anything else) and then gotten some Thyme for free…

But no matter now! What’s done is done!

There will be more sales!

2013-01-30_14-45-35_785

And the last thing I didn’t buy because it was on sale.

(Although it also happened to be on sale).

Mark loves Sweethearts (even though I think they are the most horrid thing since black licorice) and when we tried to get a bag in Minnesota they weren’t the ones that he liked so we ended up chucking most of it (which was fine by me). So when I saw these at the market I thought, why not? Plus it’s almost Valentine’s Day and I’m sure he would like these in his little lunch bag. (Although he might just leave them at home and devour at a later time).

For all three the regular price was $1.77 but I got $0.27 off so I paid $1.50 for all three which is about 50 cents a piece which is pretty good.

Spent more money than I had intended but I got some good deals out of it so I’m a happy camper.

Yay! Hope you enjoyed the post!

Homemade Almond Jello

PhotoGrid_1359343927719 (1)

I finally made that Almond Jello that I had bought earlier in Chinatown!

It’s pretty easy. All you do is add the mix with 4 1/2 cups of water and bring it to a boil and once you do you can divide it into cups or put into a shallow pan to let cool which takes about 2 hours.

And because I’m such a klutz the water boiled over spilling all the sugary water onto my new stove top so I had to desperately try and scrub it off after the stove had cooled down. I think I got most of it but I know I’ll have to go at it again soon.

I put mine in a shallow brownie pan and it worked out perfectly!

Then you just slice it up and serve with fruit! I keep forgetting to buy fruit to eat with it so I have just been eating it by itself…but I’m not complaining! It’s delicious!

For those of you who like it, you can make it at home! They probably sell the mix at your local Chinese and/or Japanese food market.

Yummy!

Korean BBQ Before and After

PhotoGrid_1359135811377

Mark wasn’t sure what he wanted for dinner last night so we went to Korean BBQ two Thursdays in a row!

Not that I’m complaining or anything.

I LOVE Korean BBQ. I think I could eat it for every meal, every day of the week if I had the option to.

It’s the only time I get to eat raw meat. Or practically raw meat. I’m like old white men who like their steaks BLUE!

One time when I asked for my steak “blue” the waiter thought I was asking for bleu cheese.

Made me laugh but worry about my steak at the same time. But luckily they had gotten it correct and it was JUST the way I like it.

Mmm…raw beef tongue! So good! Don’t diss it till you’ve tried it.

And I started working out again yesterday since I’ve been such a slob lately and I feel much better!

I wish I had my partner in crime to exercise with…but alas Los Angeles is not within driving distance of Hawaii. Although Google Maps has directions for you to do so. It just tells you to go to the pier (with your car) and then to proceed onto a boat which will take you across the ocean to California. If only things were so simple.

I’m also going to do some book & movie reviews so you guys can look forward to that too.

I want to make Hong Kong egg tarts next but I just have to order the tart molds on Amazon so I’m going to do that now before I do anything else. Wasn’t sure if I should get the tart mold that looks like a cupcake tray or the individual tart mold containers because the latter option is just so much more expensive…

Decisions…decisions…

So many baking tools that I want but I don’t know where to start!

And everyone really liked my cookies so that made me pretty happy too.

Peanut Butter Cookies with White Chocolate Chips Recipe

PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES WITH WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIPS

Baked some cookies tonight so I thought I would share the recipe!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup butter, softened

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

2 eggs

2 tablespoons honey

2 tablespoons water

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 cups white chocolate chips

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

2. In a large bowl mix the butter, peanut butter, brown sugar and white sugar until smooth.

2013-01-22_20-10-21_6

2013-01-22_20-15-33_273

3. Beat in eggs one at a time.

2013-01-22_20-16-13_441

4. Next stir in the honey, water and the vanilla extract.

2013-01-22_20-24-39_426

5. Combine the flour, baking soda and the salt in a separate bowl.

2013-01-22_20-27-25_339

6. Slowly stir in the flour mixture into the peanut butter mixture. It is easier if you do a little bit of flour at a time in order to incorporate it better into the wet mixture.

2013-01-22_20-37-59_661

7. Stir in white chocolate chips.

2013-01-22_20-39-48_589

8. Drop spoonfuls (or small ice cream scoops) onto an ungreased baking sheet.

9. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes or until the edges are golden. This recipe makes about 2 dozen cookies.

2013-01-22_20-44-59_671

10. After you pull the baking sheet out of the oven allow the cookies to cool for 1 minute on the sheet before removing to wire racks to cool. You can also use newspapers but because I don’t have either, I put them on paper towels and they seem to cool just fine.

Gingerbread & Korean Food Time!

2013-01-13_16-49-13_685
Olivo, Mark and I were watching the “Maltese Falcon” yesterday because I had to watch it for my film class.

We’re going over the hard-boiled detective films and this was the first on our list of many!

And although it was quite fast paced and hard to differentiate characters at times, overall it was a good movie.

And a must see for Humphrey Bogart fans.

2013-01-13_18-17-03_664

After the movie I just kind of wanted to bake something. And Olivo was getting pretty sleepy so I wanted to help her stay awake so she helped me bake some delicious Gingerbread cookies!

2013-01-13_18-49-20_862

They actually turned out pretty good! It was hard to cut out the shapes without destroying them because of all that butter in the batter but I put some more flour down before I rolled out the dough so that helped a lot.

2013-01-13_20-03-38_662

And for dinner I made Sausage Omurice for me and Chicken Quesadillas for Mark.

We don’t really want the same food for dinner, which is fine by me.

It’s good because I’m getting better at multitasking in the kitchen.

I just need to get more pots and pans and stuff when I get the chance. Well…I need more baking ware rather than for cooking but we’ll see I guess.

2013-01-14_17-49-14_82

A mini polaroid of Olivo and I. (Excuse the basket of laundry).

I don’t know…this picture kind of makes me look short. Hmmm… Oh well.

2013-01-14_18-14-39_484

And today after we got back from our trip to Target we decided to go get some Korean food.

Ever since I had Korean food the other day I’ve been craving it like crazy. Thank God Olivo likes Korean food! I was stoked!

2013-01-14_18-16-32_56

She got barbecue chicken and I got Kimchi chigae! Yum!!!!

Made it home in time to watch MOST of the Bachelor but it is SO BORING!

Everyone is ugly and stupid and Sean is boring as FUCK! UGH. Bleh.

Just a picture of my two favorite furry buddies

So school started yesterday and it’s okay so far. I have 6 classes this semester so I have to make sure I stay on top of my shit, if you know what I mean. I have 3 English classes, 1 Art History class, 1 Anthropology class and 1 Philosophy class which is more like a math class because we’re learning deductive logic. I was really worried about this class but I soon realized it was just like my LSAT prep courses so I’m not TOO worried anymore. Yay!

I’ve been trying to bake more to keep my mind off of stress and it’s been helping quite a bit. I’m sure writing more on my blog will relieve more of my stress so I have to make sure to keep on that as well.

And most of all, I need to make sure I stay motivated throughout the whole semester. If I have to come up with incentives and rewards to keep myself going then that is just what I am going to do!

OH! And I’m going to start crafting again too! Hoorah! I ordered some supplies in the mail so I should be started on some projects very shortly.

But anyways, pictures like the one above really help me get through the day. I’m really glad my mother has been sending them to me. I have the most awesome cat in the world and Lala is pretty cute as well. I’ll call my mother and she’ll put the phone down so I can talk to Lala for a bit too. (Not like she understands but she turns her neck every which way to look for me). I miss my babies! AH!
