Wrote a brand new article on the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C!
I am very well aware that it is Wednesday today… it just took me a while to update but better late than never right?
So the first picture is what I usually see in the mornings on my way to school. It’s been a little dark and cloudy lately and it’ll rain near campus but for the most part the weather has been very agreeable.
The corvette is probably the only nice car I’ve seen in a while and in LA I wouldn’t even count it in amongst the VERY nice cars but this is Hawaii. All the nice cars are across the street at the luxury car dealership. It was still nice to see nonetheless.
And for our film class we had to watch Shane and I was pretty lucky that it was on Netflix. I bought some pho and enjoyed the movie (as best as I could). Nothing against the movie but you know it’s hard to watch a movie when you’re at home and you have a million other things to do.
But for those of you who have not seen it yet, here is MY quick summary (without ruining it).
For our film class we are moving into the Western genre and what better way to start it than with Shane. Filmed in 1953 (although my book says 1952 for some reason), Shane is a typical Western in which there is a conflict between two groups and as the movie goes on it becomes obvious that there are multiple contrasts in the movie. Like Thomas Shatz says in his book, “The film is a virtual ballet of oppositions, all perceived from Joey’s (the young boy) viewpoint”. The main conflict being with the homesteaders who are trying to be forced/scared out of their land by the ranchers. This again refers to the battle between things such as: social law versus primitive law, equality vs survival of the fittest and even much simpler things such as the future versus the past.
The main character Shane, who borders between both groups, has to try and negotiate and somehow create a sense of order. Shane is trying to leave his gunslinger past in order to work for Joe Starrett (Joey’s father), but as chaos arises and there is need for a resolution Shane is the only person able to act because the society around him is too weak to do so. “And it is these actions that finally enforce social order but necessitate his departure from the community he has saved”.
Shane is a classic Western that helps define the genre but at the same time this film also helps viewers understand the transformations that have taken place within the genre since 1953. And who doesn’t like watching gunslingers save whole towns, am I right?
So like I said, it’s on Netflix so if you have some free time on your hands, it’s definitely worth checking out!
So the other day I went to go see Resident Evil in the theaters. Some have Star Trek, others Star Wars but my Holy Grail is Resident Evil so I couldn’t resist!
The movie kind of sucked compared to the others but there were two things that made the movie worth my time. Well three is you count Michelle Rodriguez. RAWR! For those of you who don’t know I was Michelle Rodriguez from Machete for Halloween last year. I should have pictures somewhere but it’s just me in my bra. Go figure right? Haha.
But anyways, besides Michelle Rodriguez (appearing multiple times), Ada Wong fuckin made that movie! God was she drop dead gorgeous! I know who I want to be for Halloween! Ugh…do I have time though? Or anything to do? Meh. Plus I look kind of strange with short hair.
I could NOT stop staring at her the WHOLE movie. She’s one sexy fox. This was also pretty surprising because they usually pick ugly ass Asian girls to star in movie roles like Lucy Liu or Brenda Song or even Devon Aoki. I KNOW there are much prettier girls than those three.
And if Ada Wong wasn’t hot enough. I got to see my baby on the Big Screen! If you watch the youtube clip I attached above you’ll see what it is. Not only is she driving a brand new Rolls Royce through the fake streets of Russia but this car is bad ass! It survives almost any damage imaginable! Like she would survive if she were in a Honda Civic or something. Psh. The movie would end right there.
It was well worth the $8.75 I paid to go see it.
And I’m so disappointed in my Broncos! I’m glad they were at least able to catch up from a 13-0 at the end of the 1st.
Time traveling hamsters really?
If I wasn’t embarrassed before I sure as hell am now.
I rather lie and say that I eat dog rather than admit to being from a race that created this kind of monstrosity.
So…I was talking about video game references in television shows and low and behold up pops another one, and of course it’s from the ONE Asian on the show. What am I talking about this time?
In The Walking Dead they had a reference to Portal. Hahahahahaha. Ah~ Asian people. What am I going to do with you?
It’s like me during a zombie apocalypse…talking about sports, video games and cars…
Which reminds me…I LOVE PORTAL! I wonder if I sold my copy or not…I can’t really remember. Who doesn’t love talking potatoes?
Eddie and I literally stayed up all night after I picked it up during the midnight release. Some douche bag behind me was in line for Street Fighter or something like that. What a weirdo.
I actually have a portal sticker on my car…let me see if I can find a picture…
Watch out for falling companion cubes!
And YES, I DO have real lambskin seats, otherwise the leather seats tend to get a little hot.
Eddie and I were actually going to make wheat paste portals to post around town but it never ended up really working out. And for a really long time my ringtone was literally Glados saying:
Remember that time we tried to kill you by putting you in fire and you were like NO WAY? That was great.
And even now my text message ring tone is Glados saying “Excuse me”.
God I loved that game and if just because it’s so awesome here’s the ending song!
So I guess the Zombie Apocalypse happens AFTER Portal was made? Well that’s good. At least we’ll have some fond memories to remember. Haha.
I actually wanted to dress up as Shell for Halloween but I wasn’t sure if anyone would know who I was…so I dressed up as Dave Hester from Storage Wars instead…YUUUUUUUP!
Maybe I can be Shell for this Halloween…hmmmmm….
So I saw one of these on Sunday while Eddie and I were in Santa Monica to watch Bullhead (which I will also write about later). It was nice to finally see one in person but when I did I realized a lot of things…of course I won’t be able to write about how it drives or handles because obviously I haven’t had the chance to take it for a test drive but one thing I can talk about is the design.
Body = Maserati + Dodge
Grill = BMW
Rear Tail lights = Aston Martin + Audi + Maserati
Rear Symbol = BMW
Rear Trunk Light = Mercedes Benz
Long Hood = BMW Z Series
Among other things…
Does that sound about right to everyone?
Maserati GranTurismo Body+ Dodge Charger Doors and Windows =
BMW Split Grill but slightly elongated (to look like a moustache)
Back Symbol + Rear Tail Lights
Mixture between Aston Martin thin style design+ Audi Q7 LED Tail Lights + Maserati’s Gran Turismo Top Row LED Tail lights
Fisker Karma Tail Lights
And a little bit of Mercedes Benz Back/Trunk Light
And of course the rear embedded symbol looks just like BMW as well.
And the Long Hood from the BMW Z Series.
But I guess this is what Coleridge was talking about…how poets need to take from secondary imagination to create new art. Poets must draw from the primary imagination and use it with the technical aspects of poetry to create real art and just not art that is technically correct. And I’m sure Coleridge never meant it to be used in the creation and design of cars but I think it’s important to consider the imagination as well as technicality when coming up with new automobile designs. No design will ever be original but people can take past creations and turn them into their own creation which I believe Fisker has yet to do with the Karma. I understand that they want a sporty fun roadster yet at the same time want an eco friendly solar powered vehicle, but I think there are a lot of things they can improve upon to try and deliver on all fronts. Although it does give their company a bit of an edge by marketing the Karma as a fuel efficient “green mission” car but it’s not enough to have these cars flying off the shelves.
But I think Derrida’s SSP also helps me to understand and deconstruct the Karma into an open-ended discourse.
Fun Fact: Leonardo di Caprio traded in his Prius for a Fisker Karma.
I don’t know if the 52 MPGe is enough to get people to buy it PURELY as a hybrid car. It runs 32 miles on electricity and then 20 miles per gallon after that. *Shrug*
With a base price of $95,500 I’d have to want it for it’s design or speed rather than it’s gas saving qualities. Well, take a look at a test run Motor Trend did and see what you think:
I’m cleaning my room to get ready for my move in early April but…I haven’t moved anywhere since I was 4, so technically I’ve never moved anywhere! What do I take? What do I leave? What do I throw out? Do I box things up? Leave them be?
And for someone who LOVES boxes, I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH! I’m trying to fit my life into 3 suitcases and it’s hard.
1. Ps3 & Computer
3. Books, Knick Knacks, etc.
I HAVE SO MUCH STUFF THOUGH! I’m literally at a standstill because I’m not sure what to do next. I have to leave my tv and my printer which makes me sad. I love them both so much! I’ve given away a lot of clothes but I still have a lot more to give away. I know I can’t take all of my books with me… all my art pieces that I’ve collected… all the little knick knacks that I have.
What’s going to happen to my Camilla piece that I had framed? Sadness… or my HUGE Lisa Alisa piece. God only knows what my mother would do with it if I left it here…ugh I need to talk to her about that before I leave. What about my little shelf of toys and stuffed animals! I guess I can’t keep them with me forever…
I am however able to take the love of my life, yup you guess it, my car. I don’t know what I’d do without my baby!
I just need to learn to let go of things that I don’t need. My PS3 and my baby (car) will keep me company. (And of course Mark too).
After I’m done organizing and packing everything away my room will be clean for once in my life. What a scary thought. Maybe I’ll take up Call of Duty again sometime. I have a Call of Duty decal on my car (I know, so cool right?) and these guys biking by yesterday asked if I liked Call of Duty and I told them I’m better than they could ever be. WIN!
Oh and it’s no secret I’ve been known to make racist comments left and right but I think I was caught off guard today. I was talking about Steve Blake with a classmate when this guy asks, “So, what do you think of him?” And I’m like, “Who? Steve Blake?” And he goes, “No, the Asian, Jeremy Lin”.
What, am I supposed to like him because I’m Asian too and we share some sort of deep cultural connection because of our similar face structures and struggles with the European nation? Well, fuck you. I asked him if he asked because I was Asian and he said yes. Said he “really likes them”. Oh, now we’re a “them”? And that he grew up around them. And then he tries to justify it by saying he has a Japanese wife. What a weirdo. I don’t support every god damn Asian on this planet.
But speaking of Lin, the Knicks are really going to have to kick it into hyperdrive because they’re coming up short against the Nets. Just saying.
