Plato’s Closet Mega Thrift Find!

I’ve been getting a little tired of wearing the same clothes everyday so I thought I’d stop by Plato’s Closet after school today to see what I could find and I hit the jackpot!

I would have a lot more clothes to wear but most of my wardrobe consists of little black dresses that don’t work out so well here in Hawaii. ┬áIt’s too bad but what can you do right?

I ended up getting 5 things for only $17.28! 4 out of the 5 things that I got were half off! So I ended up saving $11.50 in discounts!

And I apologize ahead of time, my phone, however smart it may be, does not take the best photos.

First I got a cat shirt!

I just HAD to have it! I mean, come on, IT HAS CATS ON IT!

I might just wear it as is or I might bedazzle and stud the shit out of it but I haven’t decided yet…

Second I got a tubetop! It’s hard to find one’s that fit when you’re flat chested…it’s sad but true.

Bluth’s Original Frozen Banana DIY

rakugaki_20130218_0002

So Mark and I went to Target the other day and what do I find?

An Arrested Development Bluth’s Original Frozen Banana shirt!

But of course, like most of Target’s graphic T collection, they are all in Men’s sizes but I couldn’t give up the opportunity to get the shirt!

Who could possibly resist?

2013-02-18_13-25-50_81

I’m usually a Women’s XS-S but the smallest one that they had was a Men’s S so I bought it and today I decided to DIY it so that it would fit my form better and it worked out just perfectly!

First I traced a fitted shirt on top of the new larger shirt and then cut the sides so it would be the same size as my fitted shirt.

Then I took the fitted shirt, got a piece of paper and outlined the sleeves. I then took the paper, cut the shape out and then proceeded to cut the shape out of the sleeves that I had just cut off from the larger shirt.

I then sewed the two right sides of the shirt and one of the sleeves together and then repeated on the other side.

After that I sewed down the sides of the shirt.

Then after I made sure it fit, I cut out the neck line to make it more feminine.

After that I turned the shirt around, made a cut in the back and made that into a bow for the back.

I then trimmed the bottom of the shirt and finished it so no seams would come lose.

I love my new shirt and Mark likes it too!

There’s ALWAYS money in the Banana Stand!

Fashion YES of the Day

2013-02-06_11-23-34_930

So I’ve been posting a couple fashion NO’s here and there but my classmate wore the most fabulous pants the other day and I just HAD to share!

My friend here is wearing a classic plain black tank top with a gorgeous pair of Ralph Lauren Navy blue striped capris.

This simple look paired with sandals is perfect for the beach or for everyday life.

The pants are from Savers (thrift store) and were apparently only $7!

What a steal!

So ladies, stay classy and simple and it’s a win win for everybody!

Fashion NO of the Day

I don’t care if we live in Hawaii.

NO down to the knee sheer top/dresses people.

Not ones like these anyways…

Longer dresses not only make you look shorter but without a belt or darts worked into the outfit it also makes you look fat(ter) too.

I’m serious people.

And I don’t know if you can see in the second picture but it does nothing for your chests too.

It’s just flat down and awkward.

No more asymmetrical long in the back shapeless tops please.

And yes, I had to be a creeper to take these photos.

Fashion NO of the Day

2013-01-31_09-57-49_84

-Fake light blue sleeveless jean jacket

-Orange, Blue & Purple beach backpack

-Leopard jeans folded up

-Matching light blue tennis shoes

-Brown cowboy belt

-Pink (I’ve had it since high school) gel watch

What is she trying to pull off? The only two things that “match” is the color of the shoes with the vest/jacket and even that is a big FASHION NO. It looks like she’s going for a Peggy Bundy meets the 80s look. Too bad that SOUNDS cooler than it actually looks, at least on her anyways.

Ladies, when you’re going to wear a print, especially an animal print, it looks best if you match it with solid colors like white, black, grey and so on. The light blue makes everything muddled and confusing. People won’t know where to look or what to think of you. If you want to go beyond just the one animal print item the key is with the accessories. With basic solid colors you can wear accessories to bump the whole look.

Just saying ladies. Don’t make me take a picture of you on campus!

Winter Time Fun Part 1

2012-12-15_18-01-26_527I think I’ve sent out about 30+ Christmas cards this year. By the end of it I got pretty tired of decorating the cards. I tried though…I tried.

And instead of staying in warm Hawaii for the winter we are now in Minnesota for the winter. Counterproductive right?

Mark’s family is from here so I can’t help it. Maybe they can just come spend Christmas in Hawaii next year. Haha. One can hope right?

It’s hard getting used to wearing so many articles of clothing though. And I lost one of my gloves just now even though I didn’t leave the car. You have no idea how stupid I feel.

MY $3 TARGET GLOVE! WHERE DID YOU GO?!?!?!

I’ve been killing time by wrapping gifts for everyone. I swear I’ve wrapped at least half of the presents under the tree this year. I’ll post a picture when all the presents are wrapped and under the tree.

2012-12-18_22-20-00_351Got some Peppermint Bark and it was DELICIOUS!!!!! Although I didn’t get to eat too much of it. Oh well. I’ll get some more while I’m here.

I really do love this time of year! Not the weather though. Any weather too cold for short shorts is too cold for me. That’s for sure.

2012-12-19_11-04-00_235

And here’s my little outfit for the cold. Not really staying warm but at least I’m staying cute. Haha. That’s all that matters right?

2012-12-19_11-45-57_708

And here are some pictures of the outside for those of you who are curious.

2012-12-19_11-29-05_358I’ll take more pictures when I get the chance to.

Goodwill Lakers Shirt DIY x 2

So awhile ago we went to Goodwill and I ended up getting 3 shirts. One Obey shirt to send to my sugar baby, one Lakers shirt and one Call of Duty Elite shirt. For those of you who know me KNOW that I wouldn’t pass up a chance to get anything Lakers or Call of Duty related. Seriously.

So what’s different about this DIY is that I took the purple Lakers shirt and I revamped it and after I had put it together I had realized that it wasn’t exactly what I wanted so I took it apart and made something completely different and I’m very happy with the results.

But before I go any further here is the picture of the shirt that I used:

It was a Men’s XL so it was a lot of material to work with which helped in the DIY experimentation.

I’ve always just cut and sewed using my common sense reasoning skills as well as my fashion school experience but this time I decided to give those Youtube tutorials a go to see what I could come up with.

I tried out the rope tie halter idea as well as cutting up the sides and tying them together. I’m pretty sure I’ve been tying together sides for a while now so that wasn’t from the videos…or was it?

Anyways here is the video I took the tips from:

But I ended up being pretty disappointed because it didn’t sit quite right on my body.

I don’t know. Maybe it will work for you.

So I let it hang in my closet for a while till I felt inspired again to take it out and see if I can do something different with it.

And I’m happy to be able to say that I finally finished what I started today!

I ended up getting rid of the straps all together and instead turning it into a tube top dress with a heart neckline. I also put some darts in the bust line so it would better shape to my body which helped a lot since this men’s shirt was never meant to be form fitting. For the gold lining on top I ended up carefully stripping it off of another Goodwill dress that I had bought even earlier and sewing it on top of this one since it seemed to go so well seeing as how it WAS a Lakers color.

For the back I ended up using the back side of the second Call of Duty shirt that I had also gotten at Goodwill. I thought the Black would go well with the Purple and Yellow. It helps the dress look less like a Circus act and more like a fashion forward fan. All my sewing is done by hand because I enjoy taking the time to really make something come to life.

Now…what to make next. That ALWAYS seems to be the question…
