Heavy Rain Pillowcases DIY

2013-01-05_17-56-19_526

For those of you who know me know that I LOVE video games so why not do a video game DIY right?

I made these bad boys 2 years ago but they were at my mother in law’s place but she thought I might like to take them home so we could have them here.

Boy did I forget how creative I could be!

For those of you who haven’t played Heavy Rain here’s a little background info:

Basically there is a murderer committing a string of unsolved murders to which you must play different characters in order to figure out who is the culprit. And the key evidence that was left at each murder scene was a piece of origami.

While walking through Ikea I came across this fabric and I instantly KNEW what I was going to do with them.

My boyfriend (now husband) and I were geographically separated due to work and school so I wanted to make pillowcases for him.

I bought the black and white fabric from downtown LA. The white fabric I bought is normally used for baby products and is very soft because of it.

So here are the materials that you need for this fun DIY project:
(Measurements are for 2 pillowcases, divide for single pillowcase).

1.75 yards of fabric for the Main Body fabric
(You can always just round up to 2 yards if you are afraid of mistakes or are worried about the fabric shrinking or fitting larger pillows).

2/3 yard for the Band fabric

1/4 yard for the Trim fabric

Cutting Measurements :

2 panels of 27″ x 42″ for the Main Body fabric
(The seams will be about 1/2 inch so if you need to change the length or width of the cut due to pillow size remember to take that into account).

For the Band and Trim fabric you can adjust depending on how you want the finished pillowcase to look .

The length will have to be 42″ to match that of the Main Body fabric but the width can be varied on preference.

For my band I cut 1 ½” x 42″ while for the trim I did about 4″ x 42″.

Don’t pick fabrics that shrink (unless you prewash), are hard to sew or are hard to maintain unless it is for purely decorative purposes.

Sewing Guidelines :

All seams are 1/2″.

First, take your band fabric and your trim fabric and fold them lengthwise so that the pattern that you want is facing the inside of the fold (wrong side). Take an iron and press both pieces of fabric.

The right side is the pretty side which is seen when the project is done.
The wrong side is the back of the right side, it usually is not as bright or pretty.

Next, baste the folded trim strip to the band 1⁄8″ from the raw edges along the length of the strips.

Basting is long easily removable stitches, sewn by machine or by hand. Basting stitches are sewn to temporarily hold fabric together.

Next, pin the band with the trim positioned in the middle by aligning the raw edges together. Sew all three pieces together.

Now it’s time to fold the pillowcase with the right sides together. Make sure to align and match the band, seamline and lower edges. Sew all the raw or open areas together.

Trim any excess fabric there may be and then turn the pillowcase inside out and iron it one more time and PRESTO! You’ve got yourself a homemade pillowcase!

You may double stitch, zig zag or finish the seams if you are worried that they are going to come lose or fall apart.

Life has been busy…

I miss writing on my blog! I’ve been pretty busy with school, work and family for the past month or so now.

I have so much to write about. So many pictures to share!

I got my Ada Wong costume in the mail today~! I can’t wait to wear it for Halloween!

I really do look bad with wigs and with black hair so this will be a challenge. I might just have to be blonde haired Ada Wong. It might just have to happen that way. Sorry guys.

Broncos had their bye-week this week. Excited for their game against the Saints on Sunday.

I haven’t been watching the NBA preseason. Half because my hubby is gone and the other half because the Lakers have NOT won a single preseason game AND because we have whiny ass Dwight Howard on our team now. I wonder if this is a legitimate enough excuse for me to give them up and just claim the Heat as my team. Regardless I will be going to the Lakers vs Brooklyn Nets game when I come back home for Thanksgiving. I just want to see Deron Williams play mostly. Everyone dislikes that he complains so much but who cares?

Oh, I did get new Adventure Time art though! I just need to get a frame for it and find a secure place to hang it on my wall before the wind knocks it down and breaks the glass again. Let me show you the NBA art print I bought a while back too!

It’s adorable right? I have so much Adventure Time art it is CRAZY! I’ll have to do a post on that, and I will. I promise!

Wilt Chamberlain piece I got from Free Darko! I absolutely love it!

Okay, listen to this. I got a frame from Ikea and brought it back ALL THE WAY FROM MINNESOTA TO HAWAII only to have the glass from the frame shatter when the wind knocks it over after I lay it up against the wall. REALLY WORLD? REALLY? Now it’s all dusty and not in a frame. WHY DON’T YOU HAVE IKEA?! OR AARON BROTHERS HAWAII? WHY?!?!

I’m just going to have to go to Lowe’s or Home Depot and have them cut me glass so I can frame it again. Hopefully this time it doesn’t shatter on me. I love art! I keep seeing stuff I want to buy and I refrain myself as best as I can!

I saw this Marilyn Monroe piece today and I think I might just have to get it… I just love art so much. I will post a picture when and if I do. Yay!

I will write more you guys so don’t lose faith!
