Mercedes Benz 250 SE Automatic

They were produced between 1965 through 1972. This particular one is probably either a ’66 or a ’67. You can tell because in 1965 they came out with the coupe version of this car and starting the years afterwards they made it without. Starting in 1968 there are slight variations in color as well as design, not a big enough difference for the average consumer but they made adjustments here and there. There were also advances in engine technology seen during this period. They used the same engine from the previous generation but they enlarged and refined it for the W108 line of cars. The 250SE came with a straight six but it also had a six-plunger fuel injection which improved overall performance of the vehicle. In 1967/68 Daimler started a new Stroke Eight family of vehicles with W114 & W115 chassis’ so these 250SE’s on the road now are pretty rare. They did however continue the production of export designed 250S until March of 1969.

And there is a god!

clippers_suck_mousepads-p144056050647180898envq7_400

Anyone else as happy as I am about the Clippers FINALLY losing 2 games in a row?

And it was to the Nuggets and the Warriors…

Sweet Sweet Victory.

The Clippers shooting percentages were pretty horrendous for both games. It seems a miracle that this same team could win 17 games in a row.

It was only a one time deal Clipper fans, don’t get used to it. Seriously.

I don’t know if it was the Denver altitude or what but the Clippers were missing any kind of goal attempt left and right!

I think Urban Dictionary said it best, “They suck major shit, no talent on the team. Disgrace to Los Angeles and the lakers. Should just stop playing basketball and the NBA should make them a d league team.”

I almost lost my shit when I saw Blake Griffin making his free throws but I don’t need to worry about that anymore. Phew~

And here’s Blake Griffin driving a…Mercedes?

The next game for the Clippers is the Lakers on the 4th. I know the Lakers have got this!!

Hyundai Genesis & Equus Marketing Tactics

So we all know about product placement and the techniques of branding that companies use, like well designed labeling and the weight of price over value, but what you don’t know is to what effects marketing tactics like these can have on an unsuspecting customer base.

What do I mean by this? For example Hyundai uses the same tactics to market their cars to not only the new younger generation but to those worried about the class status of their vehicle and what it in turn says about them. Like the design of a Hyundai but fear that you will be looked down upon for owning a cheap Korean car? Well look no further because for people who can’t tell the difference between a Mercedes Benz and a Hyundai without the hood ornament, all it takes is a new symbol.

The reason why I know it is working is because not only have people in LA been embracing the new design but because people who know me send me pictures of new Hyundai’s thinking it is a more expensive car that I might be interested in taking a look at. Yes, it’s happened. To the average Joe Shmoe the new Hyundai Genesis has the look of a brand new luxury sedan. The body shape of the Hyundai Genesis is basically the love child of the Toyota Camry and the Mercedes Benz S550 plus or minus an awkward looking grill

.

Hyundai Genesis

Toyota Camry

Mercedes Benz S550 (Brabus)

See the resemblance? But by taking off the Hyundai symbol that used to come on the older models it has boosted sales incredibly. When the Hyundai Genesis first went on sale August of 2008 sales were dismal but now but sales rose to over 21,000 vehicles in 2009 and they are expected to sell over 50,000 units every year from here on out. That’s a big jump from 6,000 units in 5 months.

But the marketing ploys don’t stop here. Toyota has the Lexus, Nissan has the Infinity so Hyundai wanted their own Premium Brand name as well so they created the Equus brand.

But instead of being original they have borrowed from many designs to make only an inferior copy of greatness. Basically they’ve made a rear wheel drive platform vehicle copy to try and sell to the mass population as a luxury sedan.

Unoriginal qualities

-The name itself is a Latin term meaning horse or steed. (Real Original).

-The hood ornament looks AWFULLY similar to the Rolls Royce flying woman emblem.

-Mercedes S Class body frame from the top/front & BMW 5/6 series frame from side and back.

-Double between Lincoln grill and the split grill BMW is known for.

-Mercedes Benz headlights / tail lights

Why would I pay over $60,000 for a mere shoddy replica of a nice car?

Heavy curb weight, horrible turning diameter, 15mpg…

It’s one thing to pay $34,000 on a car that looks expensive (Genesis) but it’s another thing to spend twice that on something that is basically the same but just has a V8 instead of a V6. Did I mention you get better gas mileage from the Genesis?

It’s hard to find anything that offsets the Equus from the Genesis. There is no WOW factor, even reviewers claim that this is the new Mercedes. Just because you copy the shape and look does not mean that the S class is replaceable. There is a reason the Mercedes Benz S Class keeps winning the Best Luxury Sedan of the year award.

For people who know nothing about cars and want to believe that the Hyudai Equus is better than the Mercedes Benz S Class, they can go right ahead into thinking so. Don’t fall for the branding marketing ploys of Hyundai.

Low Torque, Inferior Interior, no All wheel drive = THAT is what you’re getting from the Equus.

Coming from a family who owns multiple S Class Mercedes, never have they disappointed me in horsepower, interior design or driving capabilities.

Fisker Karma

So I saw one of these on Sunday while Eddie and I were in Santa Monica to watch Bullhead (which I will also write about later). It was nice to finally see one in person but when I did I realized a lot of things…of course I won’t be able to write about how it drives or handles because obviously I haven’t had the chance to take it for a test drive but one thing I can talk about is the design.

Body = Maserati + Dodge
Grill = BMW
Rear Tail lights = Aston Martin + Audi + Maserati
Rear Symbol = BMW
Rear Trunk Light = Mercedes Benz
Long Hood = BMW Z Series

Among other things…

Does that sound about right to everyone?

Body

Maserati GranTurismo

Maserati GranTurismo Body+ Dodge Charger Doors and Windows =

FiskerKarma

Grill

BMW Split Grill but slightly elongated (to look like a moustache)

Back Symbol + Rear Tail Lights

Mixture between Aston Martin thin style design+ Audi Q7 LED Tail Lights + Maserati’s Gran Turismo Top Row LED Tail lights

Fisker Karma Tail Lights

And a little bit of Mercedes Benz Back/Trunk Light

And of course the rear embedded symbol looks just like BMW as well.

And the Long Hood from the BMW Z Series.

But I guess this is what Coleridge was talking about…how poets need to take from secondary imagination to create new art. Poets must draw from the primary imagination and use it with the technical aspects of poetry to create real art and just not art that is technically correct. And I’m sure Coleridge never meant it to be used in the creation and design of cars but I think it’s important to consider the imagination as well as technicality when coming up with new automobile designs. No design will ever be original but people can take past creations and turn them into their own creation which I believe Fisker has yet to do with the Karma. I understand that they want a sporty fun roadster yet at the same time want an eco friendly solar powered vehicle,  but I think there are a lot of things they can improve upon to try and deliver on all fronts. Although it does give their company a bit of an edge by marketing the Karma as a fuel efficient “green mission” car but it’s not enough to have these cars flying off the shelves.

But I think Derrida’s SSP also helps me to understand and deconstruct the Karma into an open-ended discourse.

Anyways…

Fun Fact: Leonardo di Caprio traded in his Prius for a Fisker Karma.

I don’t know if the 52 MPGe is enough to get people to buy it PURELY as a hybrid car. It runs 32 miles on electricity and then 20 miles per gallon after that. *Shrug*

With a base price of $95,500 I’d have to want it for it’s design or speed rather than it’s gas saving qualities. Well, take a look at a test run Motor Trend did and see what you think:

Ciao.

Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone!

I’m sorry for the lack of blog entries yesterday, I was a bit busy with life but all is better today…I think. I ended up calling the mechanic yesterday but when I told him that someone stole my right headlight cover he just laughed on the phone and told me to come in so I drove right over and yup, someone stole it. I asked if he could order both headlight covers so I can just kill two birds with one stone but he only asked about the one. Oh well. He said he should have it by today so hopefully I’ll get it fixed soon. STOP STEALING SHIT FROM MY CAR! Grr…

I have been saving money for my next car though! I know I want an older classic car but I haven’t picked a specific one as of yet. But what about this one you guys?

Can’t you just see me in a little two seater 230 SL? And look at those hubcaps. They’re just TO DIE FOR! Hahaha. I’m such a dork sometimes.

And this wouldn’t be a complete blog entry if I didn’t talk about the NBA so here goes! There are some good games to look out for today. I thought about going to the Lakers vs Hawks game tonight but I had a paper due in class and I would probably end up going by myself so I decided against it. Sad I know. There are 9 games today…

New York Knicks vs Toronto Raptors

Knicks are going to win. Carmelo and Amare should be back for today’s game so it’ll be one to keep your eyes on. We’ll see how everyone meshes together. Plus, the Raptors are 9-20. Or will they beat the Knicks like they beat them on January 2nd, 90-85? The next two games they have with the Knicks are both in March, 20th and 23rd. If they manage to win today it’ll be a good upset for the Knicks.

Miami Heat vs Indiana Pacers

The 2nd and 5th best team on the Eastern Conference. This game will probably give us a good heads up on what we’ll be looking forward to during the Playoffs.

The Pacers lost to the Heat on January 4th – 83-118. So this will be their second go around with the Heat and then the next game between the two teams is on March 10th and the last one on the 26th of March. Hopefully it’ll be a much closer game today instead of the 35 point loss they suffered in January.

San Antonio Spurs vs Detroit Pistons

Again, I think this one will be a no brainer. The Spurs are currently the #2 team on the Western Conference. They are surprisingly at 19-9 where the Pistons are only at 8-21 with a PCT of only 0.276. Still better than the Bobcats but not by THAT much. If I’m correct…tonight will be the only game between the Spurs and the Pistons…weird.

Sacramento Kings vs Chicago Bulls

Yet another no brainer in my honest opinion. #1 in the Eastern Conference vs…#14 on the Western Conference? There’s only one team worse than them on the West and that’s the Hornets…The Bulls beat the Kings December 29th,  108-98. And today will be the second and last game between the two.

Houston Rockets vs Memphis Grizzlies

This game might actually turn out to be a good one. They aren’t too spread out when it comes to W-L’s and they’re both fighting to make it to the Playoffs. The Grizzlies won against the Rockets December 30, 113-93. A 20 point win IS pretty significant. This is also their second game and the next game between the two is actually pretty soon, February 20th, so next Monday they’ll be able to dish it out again. And their last game against each other is on March 30th.

Utah Jazz vs Oklahoma City Thunder

And again, this game should be no biggie for Durant and Westbrook. They beat the Jazz last friday the 10th, 101-87. And then their last game together is March 20th. I really don’t know what happened to the Jazz this year. Al Jefferson needs to step it up, Paul Millsap has been stepping up his game though. Maybe if Josh Howard can put down some points this game will be worth watching.

I’ll give my input on the three other games tonight after I finish typing up my essay. I wrote it down pen and paper style so I just need to type it up. I like how it came out though.

Touch my car and you’re DEAD

I wake up to THIS today…AND I DIDN’T EVEN DRIVE MY CAR YESTERDAY! AND IT WAS IN OUR GARAGE! WTF HAPPENED?!?! I go to pick up Eddie on my way to work and he goes, “What’s up with your car? Your headlight is broken.” And I thought I was going to start crying right there. It’s just GONE! And Eddie was with me the last time I drove my car and it was fine…I DIDN’T EVEN HIT ANYONE! That other damage is from when the Valet attendant hit another Benz with my Benz but that’s a whole different story…UGH. But I guess this is good news. I can get it fixed and order a matching pair for the other side which has been broken for a while now ever since someone at Trader Joes ran into my car the ONE DAY I was parked head out. It’s okay, I’ll take care of my baby and get a wax and a nice hand car wash and everything will be okay.

So I guess Whitney Houston is dead. Don’t really know to feel about that.

But maybe this will make people feel better.

*shrug* It sure put a smile on MY face. Hey! It’s all we have! Ever since Yao’s been out we’ve been DYING for another NBA Asian Superstar! Hahaha. And contrary to what John says, I doubt Lin has sold his soul to the devil like Dr. Faustus. And if he has sold his soul than he got a much better deal than some other players who I won’t mention for fear of being shanked.

Or maybe this will cheer some of you up. Hahaha. Ah~ people are hilarious sometimes.

So, let me get this straight. You’re paying to see my team rip your team to shreds? Sure, I’d love to go.

So it’s Leap Year this year and guess what I get to do? Go to a Lakers game! That’s right. Mark was thoughtful enough to buy two tickets so I could take my little cousin with me who LOVES basketball. And when I asked him how I could thank him all he could say was that he wanted a picture of me crying with makeup all over my face when the Lakers lost. Hah! He’s going to have to wait a LONG TIME for THAT picture. Come on, it’s the Timberwolves. What is there to be scared of? A whole bunch of white guys with beards?

Wait…that might actually be pretty disturbing. Intimidation by Aggressive Beard Disorder? Nothing the Lakers can’t handle. (*Photo from Mark*) I have nothing to be afraid of.

Speaking of which, we always wage a bet against each other and since betting money with each other would be pointless we always pick something else instead. If the T-Wolves had won I would have had to buy Christmas game tickets to a T-Wolves game when we go back to Minnesota for the holidays but I didn’t need to worry about that. So…I ended up winning Fruit Snacks! Sounds silly doesn’t it? But they’re SO good and SUPER expensive. He ended up buying me a bulk box so it worked out even but that isn’t why I’m writing this blog entry. I was racking my brain trying to decide what I wanted when I won this time…a new Juicy Couture swimsuit? The Walking Dead Zombie Action Figures? Those CDs I mentioned in an earlier blog entry? But while I was in the shower I had an epiphany! I knew EXACTLY what I wanted. Wait for it…

GENUINE MERCEDES BENZ FLOOR MATS (no rubber or all terrain ones, just plush). But do you know how hard it is to find floor mats for older model cars that aren’t fan mats or rubber mats? VERY HARD! I ended up finding one on ebay, it was the perfect year, style, fit but there was only one problem…it’s grey. I need tan/beige ones. Ugh, that’s going to be so much harder.

Not sure what he wants to bet yet. I need help!!!! I know they exist SOMEWHERE out there…they have to! Right? Right?! It’s so hard to be a tomboy sometimes…
