Valentine’s Day Dinner + Movie

2013-02-15_19-07-35_59

Mark asked what I wanted to do for Valentine’s Day and I said Korean Barbecue & Die Hard!

I asked to do V-day on Friday because I had tests and such to study for on Thursday night and I think it worked out pretty well.

We had KBBQ at my favorite place in Honolulu, Sikdorak, and I loved every bite of it! We got there a little early which was good because everyone started to pile in as we started eating.

But by the time I was done eating I was WAY too stuffed to go to a movie so I said we would go on Sunday.

But before we go, we decided to look up what the ratings were of Die Hard on Rotten Tomatoes and it was NOT GOOD…

I mean the audience gave it a good review but I think the critics gave the movie something like a 17% which is HORRIBLE! I love Bruce Willis and Die Hard but I didn’t really want to pay to see a bad action film either. I think I might wait till it’s released on DVD.

So instead I looked for the next movie with a decent rating and we ended up settling for Side Effects.

Mark liked it better than I did. I think I would have rather watched Die Hard, to be honest.

The beginning of the movie was pretty interesting and it set up the plot and its twist pretty well, but I personally think the movie dragged the plot on for too long. I was expecting more of a cliffhanger ending like Inception or Shutter Island but no such luck for me.

This movie takes more of a political stance on police corruption, the malpractice of doctors and the world of money embezzlement. Not really my type of movie.

For those of you who like psychological thrillers and plot twists and such, I think you will like this movie.

Oh My Glob, like it’s Happy Valentine’s Day!

560242_10151494653073383_910582053_n

I hope everyone has a good Valentine’s Day or Single’s Awareness Day or what have you!

Or you can just have a regular Thursday, it’s up to you!

Either way, I’ve been having a fun couple of days baking goodies and sharing them with friends.

I’ve also been planning a lot of activities for when Eddie comes to visit for my Graduation! We’re going to do everything!

Shark cage tours! Kayaking! Parasailing! Jet skiing! Scuba Diving!

And so we both need to save some kind of money in order to do that so I told him,

“Whenever you want a drink, just say to yourself ‘Pirate’!”

There are some shipwreck scuba diving tours so I’m going to see if I can make that happen…

And so Eddie sent me this Valentine!

Although the more I look into it, I really do think we need to be certified…

Like I said, I’ll figure it out.

I got Mark a couple sweets but he got a little munch hungry so I gave them to him a little early…

Sooo…I went out and got a few more things for him that I know he’ll like.

Cute right? The bag I got at Walmart and the Japanese snacks I got from Nijiya on my way to school this morning.

I’m so glad they all fit in there. Yay!

And here’s my little Valentine’s Day outfit for today:

Decided to go a little school girl today, just because I thought it would be cute.

Still playing around with photo editor apps but it’ll work out eventually.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day Hershey’s Kiss Peanut Butter Cookies!

2013-02-12_13-50-41_393
I made some Peanut Butter cookies with Swirl Hershey’s Kisses today for Valentine’s Day!

I know V-day is on Thursday but there are some people I only see on Wednesdays so I thought I should bake some goodies a little early so that I could share them with everyone!

Mark has been devouring them like hot cakes! Haha.

So here is the recipe!

Ingredients:

-1/2 cup shortening

-3/4 cup peanut butter

-1/3 cup white sugar

-1/3 cup brown sugar

-1 egg

-2 tablespoons milk

-1 1/2 cups flour

-1 teaspoon baking soda

-1/2 teaspoon salt

-A little extra white sugar to roll the cookie dough in

-At least 30 Hershey’s Kisses (doesn’t hurt to have more just in case) 1 bag is more than enough

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

2. Mix the shortening and the peanut butter.

You can use a mixer but since mine has not come in the mail I just folded them together and it worked out great!

3. Mix in sugars and fold/mix until light and fluffy.

4. Add the egg, milk and vanilla. Continue to beat/mix well.

5. In a separate smaller bowl combine the flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually mix the dry mix into the peanut butter mixture.

6. Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and roll them in the extra white sugar.

7. Place the sugared dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for about 8-10 minutes.

They will come out looking about the same shape that they had when you put them in, but don’t be alarmed.

8. While the cookies are baking, unwrap however many Hershey’s Kisses that you need so that you will have them ready when the cookies are done baking.

9. Pull out the cookies, they should be lightly browned, and immediately place a Hershey’s Kiss on each cookie and press down slightly.

This will give it the flat cookie shape.

You can use whatever flavor Kisses that you like. I think they’re just a little more colorful with the Swirl Kisses.

You can either enjoy them at home or do what I did and gently place them in little plastic bags and tie a red ribbon on top.

2013-02-12_14-57-25_467

As a warning though, be careful when you package them because it will take some time for the Kisses to harden again. They will be melty for quite a while. But that’s what makes it so delicious right?

Enjoy and Happy Valentine’s Day!

Half-Batch Chocolate dough cookies with milk & white chocolate chips

539741_10200566582543857_199603791_n

Made a half-batch of cookies so I thought I’d share the recipe with you!

They were SO delicious!

I think Mark ate most of the batter before I could get it on the pan into the oven. But…in his defense, it was some of the best tasting cookie batter I’ve ever had.

So here is what you need:

Ingredients:

– 1 cup + 2 tablespoons flour

-1/2 cup butter

-1 large egg

-1/2 teaspoon salt

-1/2 teaspoon baking soda

-6 tablespoons of firmly packed brown sugar

-6 tablespoons sugar

-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

-3/4 cup white chocolate chips

-3/4 cup milk chocolate chips

-3 tablespoons cocoa powder

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

2. Cream together the butter and the sugars. You can take the butter and open the sides and microwave it for about 13-15 seconds so that it becomes soft. Make sure to watch it so it doesn’t melt and make a mess.

3. Add the vanilla and the egg and continue mixing. Mix well.

4. Add the flour, salt and baking powder into the same bowl. Usually you would do this separately but since it is a half batch recipe it is easier to mix it all together without having to do it in parts. Mix well until everything is consistent.

5. Add in the cocoa powder and mix it in.

6. Fold in the chocolate chips.

7. On a ungreased cookie sheet, drop round spoonfuls of the dough. I usually use an ice cream scoop and it works out pretty well.

8. Bake for about 8-10 minutes. They should still be soft so when you take them out of the oven let them cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes before you transfer them onto wire racks or newspaper.

9. Enjoy and share!

Rookie Couponing…Try #2

2013-01-30_15-52-31_957

So I “tried” couponing again today.

Not REALLY HARDCORE or anything since I only took in one physical coupon that was for $0.30 but I still gave it my best try…

2013-01-30_14-41-15_676

First I got a $10 coupon (for spending so much money). #CouponFail

For anyone who lives near a Safeway, they are doing a promotion where if you spend $75 you get a $10 coupon for next time!

2013-01-30_14-41-25_943

And then I got a $2 coupon for any two Splenda products.

Hey, at least it’s more than 30 cents.

And for the record, no I do not use Splenda, Mark does.

2013-01-30_14-42-25_113Mark likes to take Cashews to work but they are SO EXPENSIVE in Hawaii but I got a steal on these!

Normally they are $20.39 but the store was having a sale where they were $2.40 off so $17.99, BUT I had a Safeway eCoupon (which you can also get by checking our their website. Safeway.com and registering for an account. All you need to do is add the eCoupon to your account and it automatically deducts the coupon once you scan your club card or type in your phone number while in the checkout line). SO I got an additional $3.00 off these bad boys making them only $14.99. (Which is still a ridiculous price for Cashews, if you ask me).

1. Register at Safeway.com.
2. Click on “just for U”.
3. Click on “Coupon Center”.
4. Go through the list and add what you want (you might as well add everything since it doesn’t hurt).
And they’ll be ready to use without any unnecessary hassle!

Easy right?

2013-01-30_14-42-56_685

Bought another Land O Lakes Unsalted Butter. I used the coupon that you see on there (that I got last time) to get 30 cents off my purchase. I usually buy Salted butter but I’ve been cooking a lot and it’s better most times to use unsalted so I’ve been getting in the habit of just buying unsalted butter, just in case I need it to bake cookies or what have you.

2013-01-30_14-43-21_103

These were on sale for buy one get one free!

Who DOESN’T like breakfast sausages??

So normally for two of these boxes it would be $11.98 but I only paid $5.99! Score! We’re eating good tonight! Hahahaha. I kid.

2013-01-30_14-44-06_246

And how much do you think I paid for this box of 200 Splenda packets? Originally it’s $12.99 but they were $4.00 off so I only paid $8.99 for them.

Although if you think about it, I could have just taken multiple trips to a nearby coffee shop and just lined my pocket with Splenda but who am I kidding? I’m not Chinese.

I’m just joking people. Other Asian people do it too…don’t worry.

2013-01-30_14-44-27_549

Mark also likes these Builders Protein Bars but they’re usually pretty pricey.

(Yes, they can be cheaper at Walmart but sometimes I just don’t want to deal with the hassle of what is Honolulu Walmart).

The peanut butter ones are originally $10.39 and the chocolate mint ones are $10.19. Why the peanut butter costs more than the mint, I have no idea.

But I got them both at $7.99 a box (which is pretty good since they usually sell for like $2/a piece).

2013-01-30_14-45-10_506

The Flipz White Fudge Pretzels were also buy one get one free!

Cha-ching!

Seriously, score of the day! (Well this and the breakfast sausages…what? They’re good!)

So normally they would both be $9.58 but I only paid $4.79 for both.

These things are addicting!

I have stopped buying things that I could make at home but I don’t think I could make these as fast as I could eat them.

Good thing I’ve been hitting the gym lately.

And I bought a few other things with minor savings but I didn’t think they were worth the post.

2013-01-30_14-45-20_119

I also got some Cream of Tartar so I could make some Snickerdoodle cookies this week. It was on sale but it wasn’t.

Let me explain.

All the spices were Buy 2 Get 1 Free but spices are so expensive and I didn’t think I needed another one…

Although thinking about it, I’m kicking myself right now because I could have bought some more Cinnamon (which I use more than anything else) and then gotten some Thyme for free…

But no matter now! What’s done is done!

There will be more sales!

2013-01-30_14-45-35_785

And the last thing I didn’t buy because it was on sale.

(Although it also happened to be on sale).

Mark loves Sweethearts (even though I think they are the most horrid thing since black licorice) and when we tried to get a bag in Minnesota they weren’t the ones that he liked so we ended up chucking most of it (which was fine by me). So when I saw these at the market I thought, why not? Plus it’s almost Valentine’s Day and I’m sure he would like these in his little lunch bag. (Although he might just leave them at home and devour at a later time).

For all three the regular price was $1.77 but I got $0.27 off so I paid $1.50 for all three which is about 50 cents a piece which is pretty good.

Spent more money than I had intended but I got some good deals out of it so I’m a happy camper.

Yay! Hope you enjoyed the post!

What better movie to watch on Valentines Day than…300?

After work (which was really stressful and irritating) I went to go workout at the gym (which I will get into later) but after that I thought I’d reward myself with a new cd, since I rarely buy CDs or DVDs to be honest with you. And guess what I saw at Amoeba? A Valentine’s Day DVD Sale section and honestly, what more romantic and sexual movie could you ask for than 300? Half naked men proving their man hood, women getting raped right and left. If that doesn’t spell out Valentine’s Day, I don’t know what does. Someone probably just put it there as a joke or just saw it as a place to put a DVD they’ve been having second thoughts about but I found it amusing nonetheless. Or maybe we should just all be watching movies about high school students getting pregnant to get into the mood? Wouldn’t that just be a turnoff? Unless that’s what you’re into…hey, for some people it is. Or maybe what gets some people off is adultery? Who would want to be with scary SVU detective Christopher Meloni anyways right? Haha, just joking. Or maybe now that technology is replacing everything we can appreciate the forming of relationships between real people and artificial intelligence? Who in god’s name picks out these movies? Were these the reject movies that they just want to get rid of that have just the bare minimum to do with love or desire? Yeah, I still stick by my original statement, out of those four movies 300 is probably the most romantic. Is it so hard to put Casablanca? Dirty Dancing? Or even The Notebook for God’s sake.

So what did I end up buying from Amoeba anyways? The new Foster the People album. I wanted a Black Keys CD but the two songs that I really like are on different CDs so instead of suffering a mental breakdown I gave up and bought a Foster the People CD since I’ve had my mind set on it for a while now as well. Can’t win them all I guess. I’ll go back for the other ones some other time. Oh and if you haven’t seen the Black Key’s-Howlin for you music video, it’s amazing! It’s just like Sucker Punch made into a music video, and for those of you that know me know that I NEVER go on youtube so me putting this link on here is hardcore.

And I think I deserve some sort of award for buying stuff on Craigslist and STILL being alive. This kid was selling Saints Row 3 for XBOX360 for $30 so I went to go pick it up since Mark has been wanting to play it for awhile. Like I want to pay $60+ bucks at GameStop. No thank you. I ended up racing an Infiniti G35 on my way to pick up the game. I won. Like always. Hahaha. Scared the shit out of Steven though (the busser at work needed a ride home) but he made it home in one piece. People get so scared when I tell them that I buy stuff off of Craigslist. I know what to watch out for, I’m not THAT stupid. Hahaha but thanks for worrying about me you guys. I can handle myself. Most times it’s just kids selling games so they can have some cash for more games. I’ve actually met the nicest people too.

While I’m still on the topic of V-Day, I didn’t really ask for anything but Mark always knows what to get me so here’s the other gift that he sent.

A Vintage Hard Top Retro Pink Samsonite Suitcase! I absolutely adore it! It’ll be perfect for all the traveling and moving that I’m going to do! My computer and PS3 will be safe and snug in there. (I really need to start playing Call of Duty again but I haven’t had any motivation lately). I still have a lot of stuff I need to pack and clean but I’ll get to it soon enough.

Yay for days off! I have to start on my essay soon…

That’s right it’s GYM TIME! You know what that means…

More car pictures!

But before I get into that I have to thank Mark for the early Valentines Day present he has sent me.

I only wear weapon jewelry so it’s perfect! Now I have a sword to add to my collection! Muhahaha! I absolutely adore it! And it’s actually pretty sharp if anyone tries anything on me. I’ll just be like “Hi-Yah!” and then I’ll stab them with my sword necklace. Death by necklace. It’d make for a good SVU episode that’s for sure.

But back to the subject of cars. Jack sent me an edited picture of the Volvo 1800S he saw yesterday:

Just gorgeous isn’t it? That’s what I’M saving my money for. Mmhm! I’ll have you someday!!! A girl can dream can’t she?

But the main part of going to the gym that I look forward to is seeing all the nice cars in the parking lot. Who would’ve thought a Golds Gym parking lot would be packed full of Porsche 912’s and tons of different Ferraris. I guess that’s why my membership is so god damn expensive? Haha. (*Thanks Mark for that*) But nothing too crazy in the parking lot today. Just a lot of classics that I love seeing day to day. I guess today can be my tribute to classic Mercedes throughout the ages. I’ll be a MB girl for life. I can’t help these things…you can blame my mother.

Mercedes Benz 550 SEL – Late 1970s

Mercedes Benz CL55 AMG – 2001-2003

Mercedes Benz C36 AMG – 1993-1997

But I guess this wouldn’t be a very meaningful blog if it were just filled with pictures so I guess I can teach everyone a little something as well. I’m sure a lot of people see Mercedes Benz AMG’s speeding about on their local streets and aren’t really sure what they’re all about so here goes.

AMG stands for Aufrecht, Melcher and Großaspach

*Aufrecht after former Mercedes engineer Hans Werner Aufrecht

*Melcher after other partner and also former Mercedes engineer Erhard Melcher

*Großaspach which was the name of Aufrecht’s birthplace

AMG was founded by Aufrecht and Melcher in 1967 and it was meant to be a racing engine forge, meaning that they were in the business to create high performance engines that could be used for racing. The popularity of the AMG engines rose as people sought out their products to enhance their own cars. Because of growing demand DaimlerChrysler thought it about time to sign a deal with Aufrecht so they could work together to build a line of high performance vehicles for Mercedes Benz. Melcher had stopped being a partner by this time. But as things go DaimlerChrysler owned a majority of shares while still doing business with Aufrecht and by 2005 Aufrecht had sold all of his shares over to DaimlerChrysler making the AMG subsidiary wholly owned by DaimlerChrysler. They still make racing engines in Germany under the name HWA which stands for Aufrecht’s initials. In the market today the AMG models of Mercedes Benz, excluding the more expensive non-AMG V12 models, are the most expensive, highest performing, best handling and most stable of all of the cars offered by Daimler-Benz.

As for the SEL class, up until 1993 Mercedes Benz was using numbers and then letters to signify design and specifications of the car but with the introduction of the C-Class the order had been reversed. What used to be SEL, which were the long-wheelbase models, and the SE, which were the regular-length models, Mercedes had decided to put them all under the single letter S which is what we see today.

Hope someone got something out of that. Yay for learning! Especially about cars!
