Need a little reward after a grueling midterms week? Lucky for students, the month of March is filled with new and exciting game releases week after week. Everything from a brand new reboot of the Tomb Raider classic to the next installment of the ever popular first-person shooter BioShock Infinite. The only hard decision is…which one to play first.
The first on the list is Square Enix’s Tomb Raider, which is set to be released on March 5th. Unlike the previous Tomb Raider games, Square Enix has revamped the story to make this the first of a series of games to follow. The reboot was used to overhaul the beginnings of the ever popular character Lara Croft. Her transformation from an unsure young woman to an ass-kicking superstar is tracked through this new story, made for both the newer generation of gamers as well as the long time followers. It is also the first Tomb Raider game to be given both an “M” (Mature) and a “18+” warning on the label. The art style also greatly resembles that of the Final Fantasy series.
A perfect fit for the island of Hawaii, the story takes place on an unknown island where a young Lara Croft has become shipwrecked with her crew, while on her way to make something of herself. And it is up to her to survive and help her shipmates while fighting off deadly inhabitants turned mercenaries that are out for blood.
This action-adventure platform game will be available for the XBOX360, PS3 and PC. There are two versions up for sale, the Tomb Raider: Final Hours Edition will be the usual $59.99 + tax, while the Tomb Raider Survival/Collector’s Edition is $99.99 + tax. The Collector’s Edition comes with: 1) a copy of the game, 2) Play Arts Kai Lara Croft Figurine, 3) Endurance Survival Kit Packaging, 4) a Lithographic Print, 5) Experience Shields, 6) CD Soundtrack, and 7) Downloadable content.
God of War: Ascension
The next must have for this gaming season is God of War: Ascension, which is set to be released March 12th. This will be the seventh installment in the God of War series and it will be a prequel to the entire series.
God of War: Ascension takes place about 10 years before the original God of War series and is mostly centered around the theme of vengeance. Gamers will be playing as Kratos, but what will be different about this game is that Kratos is much more human. After being tricked by Ares into killing his wife and son, he is on a quest for redemption which also leads to his attempt to break bonds with Ares.
This third person action-adventure game will be released exclusively for the PS3. What’s more is that this will be the first game in the God of War series to have a multiplayer feature, as well as extra downloadable content. God of War fans won’t want to miss out! The regular edition is set to retail for $59.99 + tax, while the God of War: Ascension Collector’s Edition is set at a price of $79.99. The Collector’s Edition will include: 1) a copy of the game, 2) Exclusive 6″ Kratos Statue, 3) Premium Steelbook case, 4) a digital copy of the Official Soundtrack, 5) PS3 Dynamic Theme, 6) PSN Avatar Pack, 7) Multiplayer XP Boost Unlock, and 8) a pass for future downloadable content.
Gears of War: Judgment
And with every PS3 exclusive game there comes an XBOX360 exclusive game. Gears of War: Judgment is set to release March 19th. This game will be the fourth in the Gears of War series.
Like most of the games being released this month, Gears of War: Judgment is a prequel to the other three in the series with the chronology of events in this game predating the rest. The protagonists in this game being Damon Baird and Augustus Cole. Gamers get to follow the Kilo Squad battle their way to try and save the city of Halvo Bay in the subsequent aftermath of Emergence Day.
Made for the XBOX360, this epic third-person shooter is priced at $59.99 + tax for the regular copy and $78.00 + tax for the Gears of War Judgment EB Games Special Edition. The special edition, which is only available at EB Games, comes with a Steelbook and multiplayer skins. The game will also feature two new multiplayer modes for gamers to try out.
Third in the BioShock series, BioShock Infinite is set to be released on March 26th.
Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite does not follow the same storyline as the first two in the series. This new game is instead set in the floating air-city of Columbia where gamers get to play as Booker DeWitt, a former Pinkerton agent, who has been sent to rescue the long time captive Elizabeth. Although Booker is successful in saving the 12-year detainee Elizabeth, it is up to them both to fight off the different factions of the city of Columbia. But not to stray too far from the original series, gamers will still get to use the same style combination of weapons, gear and psychokinetic powers. A plus that gamers can look forward to in this new game is the expansion of available combat challenges due to the open-air nature of the setting.
This first person shooter will be available on the XBOX360, PS3 and PC. The regular edition is set to retail at $59.99, while the premium edition is set at $79.99. There is also a rare Ultimate Songbird Collection that has been seen priced at around $300 to $550.
StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm
And the ever popular StarCraft series is finally releasing the long awaited expansion pack for StarCraft: Wings of Liberty. StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm is also part two of the StarCraft II trilogy. The expansion pack will include additional units as well as changes to the multiplayer mode. Also featured is a continuation campaign of the main story that focuses on the Zerg race.
Set to take place two years after the events of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, the main focus of this game will be on the Zerg race and on Sarah Kerrigan, who will be the protagonist as well as the anti-hero. Having regained her human form, Sarah is on a crusade to gain back leadership of her swarm, that has now been divided into many factions, while exacting vengeance on Arcturus Mengsk, Emperor of the Terran Dominion.
This military science fiction real-time strategy game developed by Blizzard is set to be released March 12th on PC and OS X. The regular edition will be priced as an expansion pack and will cost $39.99, where the collector’s edition is set at $79.99. In the collector’s edition gamers get: 1) a copy of the game, 2) exclusive behind the scenes dvd & blu-Ray 2-disc set, 3) soundtrack and art book, 4) Zero Rush mouse pad, and 5) exclusive in-game content.
So I’ve been looking forward to Episode 2 of Walking Dead for so long! It seems like forever ago that they released the first one.
I’m pretty happy to be playing it but can they really just skip ahead 3 months? Is that something I’m going to have to get used to?
I’ve tried to stay pretty much neutral the whole game but it’s pretty hard.
Here are my thoughts on the game.
Kenny is a fucking jackass, yeah go run off in your RV like I give a shit! Take your ADHD ridden kid with you. Pff.
If you give me ANY more shit about not looking out for Duck I will shove this gun barrel so deep in your mouth it’ll clear blow out all your brains before you even have a second to blink.
I’m glad Larry is dead, that son of a doggone bitch.
Yes I knew this family ate people even though I haven’t read the comics yet. Poor Mark though…maybe I shouldn’t have wasted my food on him.
It’s funny if you watch any of the walkthroughs on Youtube because I DO NOT get the same options these guys get when they’re playing.
And how DID that lady get Clementines hat? Weird.
We will talk about NBA trade talk soon…just need to beat this episode of Walking Dead first…
Here’s a part of the walkthrough for those of you who want to know what the game is like:
And here’s my final percentages for Episode 2
So I did what majority of people did. And YES I stole food, so be it.
There are some cruel and unusual people out there…leaving people for dead or helping them get there. Hey, it is what it is.
I enjoyed it regardless. Maybe I’ll play again and just kill everyone. Muhahaha.
Excuse all the boxes. I actually took this picture earlier this week so it doesn’t look like that right now. I’ll take another picture once I dismantle all of the boxes and throw them away. I’m about 80% done but it’s hard for me to carry the huge boxes downstairs so I’m taking my time. It’ll all get done though. I finished most of the other cleaning so we should be good.
We went to go look for a dinette set yesterday but the one we wanted is currently “in transit” so the lady said it would be a couple more weeks…I guess we’ll see. We’re having our open house tomorrow so we really wanted something in the house by either today or tomorrow but I guess that’s seeming a little improbable at the current moment. Oh well. It is what it is.
So yeah, I finally set up my computer so I can write real posts. I’m still not used to writing long posts on a laptop so I’m glad to be back on my computer. I forgot how good it feels to just sit in front of the computer and just write. It’s amazing! And I’ve missed all you guys too! I’ve mostly been cleaning and going to work and watching playoff games. But I’ll talk about that later.
I just have to say, I love our TV though. Not only do we get sports in HD but also the Food network and all my games look so amazing! Muhahaha. It’s bad because I don’t think I do anything else…hahaha. It’s so pretty…I don’t want to be away from it! I mean I spent the whole morning today watching “Food Network Star” which I am now officially hooked on after 2 episodes. DAMN YOU CABLE TV! Just SUCK the life right out of me why don’t you?!
Oh and the other day I was feeling a little down so I went on a little shopping spree and splurged on myself. Want to see what I got?
The girl at Gamestop convinced me to buy Killzone 3 and I actually like it a lot. Again, if I could pull myself away from Chopped or Storage Wars I would be playing more often…but it’s SO HARD! AH! For those of you who don’t know, I’ve never had cable my whole life except for those brief periods while staying at a hotel so this is something new for me and I just can’t get enough of it! I mean, I didn’t even watch TV these past 2 years. My TV was only on when I wanted to play video games and that was about it.
Oh and I also pre-ordered Black Ops II so they gave me a free poster and I get some cool perks for preordering early! Yay! This actually made my day because I left all my other COD posters back home in LA. (God I hope my mother doesn’t rip/throw them away…) I wonder where I should put this one…
I actually went to Home Depot before work yesterday and I got some stuff to hang up the art that I brought with me so I’ll get started on that today when Mark gets home. I can’t wait to give our apartment a little flare. Our place is so modern though it’s pretty cool.
I bought one other thing for myself because I just couldn’t resist.
Hmmm…what could it be?
No, it’s not shorts…or lingerie…or anything cute.
It’s…A PEYTON MANNING BRONCOS SHIRT!
Come football season I’m going to wear it EVERYWHERE!
NBA playoffs post coming up~
I actually haven’t been to the beach yet because well…I don’t really care for the beach. It is what it is.
I bought Silent Hill (The old one) to play but…it freaked the shit out of me early on so….I’m going to return it. Yup. I’m a big ol’ chicken.
But I’ve been watching Mark play Saints Row the Third and I have to say it’s pretty entertaining. He even made a character after me. She looked pretty strange though…her cheekbones were a little too high…but her Russian accent made up for everything.
I also like identifying every car that the cars in the game are modeled after. Most are weird hybrid versions of cars like half Jaguar and half Mitsubishi or half Bentley and half Chrysler. Hahaha. Mark’s been pretty comfy in his wannabe CTS or otherwise known as the “Sovereign”. Pretty close to the original though.
And all the gangsters drive the Rolls Royce and Bentley knock offs.
But that’s not why I’m writing this blog. I started this entry because I saw a classic beauty in the parking lot the other day. Any guess as to what it is?
Yup! That’s right! A classic 1973 Corvette!
Sorry for the awkward shots. There were cars on either side so I couldn’t take a better picture. Ugh you should have seen the paint job and those seats! God! They were to die for!
The Chevrolet Corvette or also known as the Chevy Corvette Stingray Coupe (C3) was designed to break away from the C2. It still used the same chassis but the interior and exterior were brand new designs.
And for those of you who are curious here is some background information on the Corvette.
The Corvette is made by Chevrolet which is a division of General Motors and it has been in production for 6 six generations now. The first prototype was a concept car that was debuted in 1953 at the GM Motorama. And I’m sure for those of you who have read my previous posts they will already know that the name “Corvette” comes from a small warship that they used to use in World War II. The warship has been around since the 1650s but the modern Corvette warship that we know now was designed during WWII.
And I’m sure most of you already know but the Corvette is also called the Stingray.
The Corvette that I saw on the street is a 3rd generation Corvette and it was modeled after the concept car the Mako Shark II which was designed by Larry Shinoda in 1961.
I actually really like the naming of cars using an aquatic theme. It not only keeps with the sea theme that the name “Corvette” brings to the table but it also sets these cars apart from the other cars that just name their automobiles after big cats.
Mark was part of a group survey one time and when they asked what they would like their dream car to be named after almost everyone responded that they wanted it named after a big fast cat. Weird huh? I rather have a Shark than a Cougar anyday. UGH MERCURY COUGAR! Gross…
wait I take that back. I’d take a muscle car classic Cougar…BUT only if I couldn’t get my hands on a Shark or a Stingray.
I mean, throughout the years there have been slight changes and improvements to the design along the way but by only changing what is necessary (under the hood & technological advances) the Corvette keeps the feel of being a classic. Chevrolet isn’t afraid to change with the times which is great for both newer and older customers but by maintaining the same body shape and style it makes the car more relatable to a number of generations which helps Chevy keep a steady flow of customers as their business grows.
There’s a reason the Corvette is called the “Mid-Life Crisis Car”. It’s a car that people dream of owning, it doesn’t have to be specific to a certain generation of Corvette or even body style. Corvette just possesses this hold on customers by offering them something old and familiar yet something new to them to experience. The feeling of driving a Corvette or riding in a Corvette sometimes gives people the same thrill as seeing another one on the road. It’s that connection that Americans feel to an all around classic. This pull to an immediate relief of stress and worry which is replaced by adventures and speed draws customers from all age groups to indulge in the Corvette. And that is why it has done so well for so many generations. There are so many cars that have never survived past the 50s and 60s but the Corvette has proved time after time that there is something to be said about their way of design and marketing. I can only imagine what they will be like in another 60 years.
So…I was talking about video game references in television shows and low and behold up pops another one, and of course it’s from the ONE Asian on the show. What am I talking about this time?
In The Walking Dead they had a reference to Portal. Hahahahahaha. Ah~ Asian people. What am I going to do with you?
It’s like me during a zombie apocalypse…talking about sports, video games and cars…
Which reminds me…I LOVE PORTAL! I wonder if I sold my copy or not…I can’t really remember. Who doesn’t love talking potatoes?
Eddie and I literally stayed up all night after I picked it up during the midnight release. Some douche bag behind me was in line for Street Fighter or something like that. What a weirdo.
I actually have a portal sticker on my car…let me see if I can find a picture…
Watch out for falling companion cubes!
And YES, I DO have real lambskin seats, otherwise the leather seats tend to get a little hot.
Eddie and I were actually going to make wheat paste portals to post around town but it never ended up really working out. And for a really long time my ringtone was literally Glados saying:
Remember that time we tried to kill you by putting you in fire and you were like NO WAY? That was great.
And even now my text message ring tone is Glados saying “Excuse me”.
God I loved that game and if just because it’s so awesome here’s the ending song!
So I guess the Zombie Apocalypse happens AFTER Portal was made? Well that’s good. At least we’ll have some fond memories to remember. Haha.
I actually wanted to dress up as Shell for Halloween but I wasn’t sure if anyone would know who I was…so I dressed up as Dave Hester from Storage Wars instead…YUUUUUUUP!
Maybe I can be Shell for this Halloween…hmmmmm….
